This weekend I got to co-host a baby shower for two of our dearest friends!!! The house was PACKED full of people, and the guests of honor were thrilled.
It was a Jack and Jill shower, meaning both men and women were invited, and it turned into a party but with lots of presents for the Mom and Dad to be!
Like I said, we were co-hosts with our friend Rachel. Together we tackled the decorations and food!
I thought that a diaper cake would be fun, new mom's can always use diapers, right?
Lee and I tackled the diaper cake making on Thursday night, we rolled over 150 diapers . . . Lee said it was the most ridiculous thing he's ever helped me do, but that it turned out super cool! haha
The cake was topped off with a sock monkey!
We also added some Pom Poms to the pendant above the table.
Next, since it was an Owl Theme, I tackled some owl cupcakes.
Using Oreos for eyes worked out great!
We did both blue and green cupcake icing . . .
and just because you can't have enough cupcakes I made some white ones as well.
Rachel thought of a candy table, she had me at Candy!
Lastly a little banner . . .
I think our guests of honor had a good time . . . and we got a great sneak peek of some seriously adorable baby goods!
So a big congratulations to Matt and Sara, we love you guys!!
Pop back tomorrow for another peek into our future babies room . . . we'll be "rocking" our latest thrift store find! ;)

Mustache Cake
First "I Mustache you a question."
What kind of cake do you make for a 37th Birthday Party????
A Mustache Cake, of course.
It was so so easy and you don't need a mustache cake pan just a regular old round cake pan. I just used a simple white cake recipe, and made two 8" round cakes. I stacked one cake on top of the other with a layer of SUPER FRUIT jam from Trader Joe's. Then I followed Spooniest's directions on cutting the cakes, it's basically a Ying and Yang shape.
Super easy, super cute! Two of my favorite things. Three of my favorite things if you include cake!
One thing that was NOT easy was Icing this bad boy. As hard as I tried there was still some icing smeared on the marble slab, and smoothing out the icing was almost impossible. But it tasted amazing so all cosmetic imperfections were forgiven!
So Happy Birthday to an wonderful man, a thoughtful husband, a loving puppy daddy, and an overall amazing human being!
Be back tomorrow with some Bookcase updates!!!

Owl Cupcakes!
Recently I had the chance to make some cupcakes for a very special little girls first birthday. My cousin's daughter had an owl themed 1st Birthday Party.
Every owl party needs some owl cupcakes! Honestly I was surprised at just how CUTE they turned out!
They were super simple to make, we used Oreo cookies and M&M's. The only part that was kind of a pain was pulling the Oreo's apart.
About half the Oreo's broke, some of them when I pulled them apart and some when I tried to smooth out the cream in the middle.
Some Buttercream icing died PINK, Brown M&M for the pupils and Yellow M&M's for the nose!

Cupcake Wedding
First off THANK YOU for all the Blog-iversary love. It was a very busy but very exciting week. We've decided to add a few more elements to the blog, clearly we need more Max posts!! hehe and we'll Definitely be adding more Video posts! Thank you so much for letting us know what you'd like to see more of!!!
Following our busy week, we had a VERY busy weekend baking cupcakes for a wedding!!
We hit some speed bumps along the way . . . the ovens at the hall weren't working correctly and the pink fondant didn't set as hard as I would have liked but they all got made . . . all 300 of them!
I was so lucky that Lee was there with me. We were planning on baking the cupcakes at the hall but the ovens weren't working properly, they would heat up to 350, then drop to 200, then shoot up to 500, so Lee took all the ingredients home and baked the remaining 200 at home while I helped the girls decorate the hall. Then later that evening Lee brought them all back to the hall and I iced and topped them. And let me tell you . . . that man of mine can bake a cupcake!!!! And build a cupcake stand, check out that bad boy! Dan (the groom) and Lee built the cupcake stand out of plywood, wood dowels and plastic piping. It was beautiful. At the Brides request we lined each tier with pink satin ribbon and I think it's my favorite part!
There were 150 Cherry Chip (the brides favorite) and 150 Chocolate with a reece peanut butter cup at the bottom. Buttercream Frosting with a fondant polka dot on the top.
I might have carpal tunnel from icing 300 cupcakes but the bride and groom were happy which made me very happy.
Phew . . .

Happy Blog-iversary Cake
We're two!!! Two years old! So since this blog is having it's birthday . . . I thought I'd bake it a cake!!!
It's a white cake, with blue buttercream icing!! I love buttercream icing, I would totally eat it with a spoon . . . not that I have, Not that I am right now . . . nom nom nom.
I also love tall layered cakes, this one happens to be a 4 layer cake. In the words of Montell Jordan . . . "This is how we do it!"
1) Slice the top off of every layer but the top. You want them to be able to stack well.
2) I use the small star icing tip. Although in hindsight I think the Larger star tip would have worked a bit better.
3) I do a bit of a skim coat of icing around the cake, filling in the gaps. Then I start at the top making small swirls of icing.
4) I moved down the cake and ended at the bottom.
5) I filled in the smaller gaps with little dabs of icing. DONE!!!
We're cutting off a slice of Blog-iversary cake for you, and sending out a big HUGE thank you! We're two years old and going strong because of you, our readers. Thank you!
Make sure to pop back later today for our first ever VLOG! It's a Video House Tour!!

Chocolate Themed Birthday Decor!
This weekend we celebrated Lee's 36th Birthday!!!
We threw a Chocolate Themed Dessert Party, with a couple of skulls to make it more "Lee"!
I started by making a banner in our party colors (Chocolate, black and Cream), it was SUPER easy.
First - I cut out triangles.
Second - I ironed on interfacing (this is super important, it keeps the triangles stiff and stops the edges from curling around.
Third - I cut the edges with pinking shears.
Last - I sewed the interfaced triangles to quilt binding . . . Both banners took me Less then 30 minutes to make!
Next I tackled the Pom Poms for the light. I tried to make them as manly as possible, so I chose Black, and Chocolate Brown (I wouldn't call them masculine . . . but they're about as manly as a pom pom can get).
I used THIS tutorial They were SUPER easy to make! and cost about 50 cents each! :)
We attached them to the chandelier using string, and the ones on top were just thrown up there! I like the look so much they're still up there today :)
I made a batch of Lee inspired cupcakes . . .
Rainbow Sprinkle cupcakes with Black Buttercream icing and tiny sugar Skulls on top! (I probably wouldn't do black icing again . . . because everyone who ate a cupcake had black lips and teeth . . . oops), but the buttercream icing made them so yummy most people still had two!!
Next I added, in no particular order, :
Overall we had a GREAT time!! A lot of Prep work but totally worth it!! The Party was a chocolate success and Lee had not only his fill of chocolate but his fill of GIN too . . . I think next weekend is going to be a stay at home and sip tea while watching PG movies kind of weekend :) haha.

Next I added, in no particular order, :
- Nanaimo Bars
- Brownies
- Rocky Road bars
- Key Lime Pie
- Black Forest Trifle (It's when the black forest cake your making doesn't want to stop leaning to the left, so you cut up the cake and make a trifle instead.
- Peanut Butter Cups
- Chocolate Mousse
- Double Chocolate Cookies
- Chocolate Cookie Straws
- Bowl of Maraschino Cherries (My Favorite).
- and a Dish of Raspberries and Strawberries!
