    Mustache Cake

First "I Mustache you a question."
What kind of cake do you make for a 37th Birthday Party????
    A Mustache Cake, of course.

It was so so easy and you don't need a mustache cake pan just a regular old round cake pan. I just used a simple white cake recipe, and made two 8" round cakes. I stacked one cake on top of the other with a layer of SUPER FRUIT jam from Trader Joe's. Then I followed Spooniest's directions on cutting the cakes, it's basically a Ying and Yang shape.

Super easy, super cute! Two of my favorite things. Three of my favorite things if you include cake!
One thing that was NOT easy was Icing this bad boy. As hard as I tried there was still some icing smeared on the marble slab, and smoothing out the icing was almost impossible. But it tasted amazing so all cosmetic imperfections were forgiven!

So Happy Birthday to an wonderful man, a thoughtful husband, a loving puppy daddy, and an overall amazing human being!

Be back tomorrow with some Bookcase updates!!!

I think I saw a Martha Stewart episode, where she put strips of parchment paper a little bit under a cake (layering all around), before she frosted it. Then, any icing near the bottom would end up on the parchment paper, and not on your lovely serving stand/tray. Then, just slid the strips out, and no mess! ^_^

I agree totally with Gabby. I use wax paper when icing a cake, but parchment would work well also.

One tip I learned years ago is that if you are going to cut a cake and then frost it...FREEZE it after you cut it. Then frost it while it is frozen and you won't get all the crumbs coming off into your frosting. Just leave it on your counter to thaw completely after you finish frosting.

I totally agree talkative. I icing the cake with waxed paper, but parchment will also do a good job.
