This book hardly needs my endorsement, so far it's had amazing reviews from Oprah's Magazine and Former President Clinton. But Since my opinion is clearly as valuable as a former president I thought I'd share my thoughts on it too. ;)
The Book is THE GOOD FOOD REVOLUTION by Will Allen and to say it's inspiring would be an understatement. It was so inspiring it made me feel like a bad person. :) Mr. Allen doesn't just talk the talk, he walks the walk, grows the food and cooks it too, all while shaping his community!
I originally thought this book would be an Urban Gardening reference book . . . but it turned out to be so much more. Mr.Allen has a passion for making 'good food' accessible to everyone, so much so that he spent his retirement savings on a plot of land in his home town of Milwaukee, a half mile away from Milwaukee's largest public housing project. A plot of land which now employs young local teens, and feeds thousands every year.
If you're interested in Urban Gardening this is a really great book to keep in your library. If you're just looking for a great read . . . this book fits that bill too. But I think what I loved most about it was that it combined useful information, tied up with an amazing, and inspiring story. One person can make a difference, Will Allen is proof.
I hope you'll consider giving The Good Food Revolution a read!!! It definitely gets Mini Manor's seal of approval . . . which is just as good as any presidential endorsement! ;) hehe
*We weren't in any way paid for this review, everything is my own opinion. :)

Hey, I would take your endorsement over Oprah's or Bill Clinton's any day...seriously! :)
ReplyDeleteI always love your choices.
ReplyDeleteHey,
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong but I'm quite sure this guy and his urban garden project was featured on either the documentary called "Fresh" or on "Food, Inc." I've seen both and both are incredibly wonderful and really open your eyes to your roll as a consumer but I forget which one I saw him in. I think it was "Fresh." If you can find either video, watch it! It will change your life. Seriously.
Love your blog and thanks for the book recommendation.
Oops - bad spelling.
ReplyDeleteI meant 'role' not 'roll'
Thanks for the review! I have not seen this one, but beng a cancer survivor, I am on a clean eating path to health and wellness.
ReplyDeleteI will be ordering this for sure!

It was "Fresh" and if you google the movie you can find it online, such an inspiring movie. What small changes people are doing in the world makes you have such hope for our future. I loved this movie, we watched it in class and then again when I got home I showed the family online. I think it's documentary.net,something like that.
