Mini Manor had a yard ei ei o, and in that yard she had some chairs ei ei o. With a blue chair here and a blue chair there, here a chair, there a chair . . . everywhere a blue chair!
If my version of old McDonald didn't give you a hint . . . we bought some blue chairs. Why did we buy blue chair when we had just painted our new bench blue??? Because as it turned out Lee did not fit in the blue bench. I'm not joking. When we bought the bench Lee was more concerned if I liked it so he told me to sit in it, then got distracted by the sellers cute chihuahua (Lee can't resist the charms of a tiny dog). I sat in it and said Yeah it's comfy, Lee paid the lady and we left. When we got it home we immediately started sanding and painting it. It wasn't until the paint had dried and we were deciding on cushions did Lee finally sit in it, it made a funny squeak, followed by a large CRACK! Lee jumped out faster than a startled duck (yup that's the best comparison I can make), and while he didn't break anything in half, he did crack the piece of wood under the seat. We would have re-enforced the bench, but it really was too small for him, his knees were up to his ears when he sat in it. Oh well, live and learn . . . always have Lee sit in something before you buy it. No big deal, my mom phoned the very same day the bench post went up and said . . . if we ever get rid of it she wants. My parents are both the same height as me so it will work for them!
On to bigger and better things . . . literally BIGGER!
I thought I remembered The Real Canadian Superstore having patio furniture so this weekend we ran in there just to see what they had on sale. Turns out EVERYTHING was on sale. The first thing I saw staring at me when I walked in was a Navy Blue Muskoka chair! It was Fate! I LOVE Muskoka chairs, and we spent a few weekends at the start of the summer looking for Big Muskoka chairs but found nothing in our price range. Not only were these in our price range, they were already the color we wanted!!! I almost feel bad telling you how much they cost but here goes . . . $62 each! Seriously a BIG, Sturdy, already painted the most fabulous shade of Blue Muskoka Chair for $62!!!
At that price I couldn't resist getting one extra for against the house. The two against the railing are great for hanging out, but if you really wanted to get your lounge on :) we'd need something with a footstool. So in the same shade of Blue we picked up this Muskoka Lounger, the little footstool ottoman pulls out from under the chair and tucks back in when we're not using it!
The lounger was only $69!
And just for a finishing touch we added the matching side table, and an umbrella . . . ella . . . ella . . . . a . . .a . . a. I told Lee he could stand under my Umbrella, anytime! ;)
But for real, the color of the umbrella was a bit of an issue for me. I couldn't decide between Red, Blue, a stripe, white or taupe. Obviously we went with Taupe, but it wasn't an easy decision. We ruled out blue because there's no way it would be the same color of blue as the chairs and I didn't want different shades of navy blue to fight with each other. We ruled out White because, having a white umbrella just seems like an invitation for dirt! And eventually ruled out red because we look directly at the umbrella from our living room and RED was just too jarring. So it came down to striped or taupe, frankly taupe won just based on price, the taupe one was $20 and the striped one was $50. I liked them both so why pay $30 more if I don't have to.
I hope you enjoyed our new backyard furniture, sometimes things work out in the end . . . especially if you're my mom and get a new blue bench for free! haha
(* still need to stain the temporary fence we put up . . . in case you were wondering, cedar needs to weather outside for a year before you stain it. Something to do with moisture getting trapped in the wood. So we'll be staining our Max Barricade at the end of August!)
If you're looking to buy the chairs or the umbrella they are from The Real Canadian Superstore (aka. Loblaws). I always try to keep in mind that our blog is read by people all over the world, and I try to pick things out that are accessible to everyone, but unfortunately these chairs are only available in Canada, through Superstore. For our American readers, I found this muskoka chair on Amazon for $58, you could definitely spray it navy blue and have the same look for around the same price. I hope that helps.
Lots of Love!!!

I saw those there. I love the navy! Awesome deal you scored for sure.. not sure they are on sale at our store. The tan umbrella looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love them!! What a deal!!
ReplyDeleteAdirondack chairs are my absolute faves! we've had our eye on 2 from costco - the "lifetime' ones that supposedly last forever, etc. but they're still a bit pricey. hopefully they'll come down soon1
ReplyDeletewhile i am sad to see the adorable and unique bench go, i LOVE your blue Adirondacks - such a steal!
$62! Are you kidding me?! I officially love PC Home. These chairs are rockin'!
ReplyDeleteYour patio looks fabulous. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLOOOOVE that shade of blue! And a little cultural lesson... who knew you Canadians called them Muskoka chairs? Whatever you call them, I am super super jealous!
ReplyDeleteThanks Caitlin,
DeleteWe actually call them both Muskoka and Anirondack up here!! But on the box it said Musokoka so I called them that!! I mostly call them anirondack too!

ok now those loungers are just the bomb! for reals - i luv that you have the lounger without taking up so much room as a normal lounger. i will have to look for something similiar here. our back concreted patio is tiny and it skeeves me to sit stuff on the grass - i know weird. but being in texas we have the most numbered poisnous (sp?) snakes and i can never relax if stuff is on the grass. little man's snadbox was always on the patio too. lol
ReplyDeleteWe have no bad snakes up here, and I'm still petrified of them!!! If there was any chance there were snakes in the grass I might never leave the concrete!!! haha

Thanks for link to Amazon for your 'Merican readers; I was just about to comment only that we call them Adirondack chairs. We have two brightly colored ones on our front porch and this style fits my 6'4, 240# boyfriend just right. I'm totally digging that pull-out foot rest; what a phenomenal idea - I've not seen anything like that "down here"!
ReplyDeleteSeriously.........this is 1000 times better than the other one....even though I liked the other one this is so much more stylish and very cape cod-ish....devine.... love the styling. What's the name of the plant in the pot on your little table? Also love the lounge chair for those lazy afternoons when you and Lee have attended to your mowing and gardening...hey after 15 mins of work you deserve to sit and read a book don't you!!! Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy!
DeleteThe plant in the little pot is just a small Lavender plant with the flowers removed! I dried the lavender already!! :)
I totally agree, after weeding and mowing we totally deserve a break! Even if there's not a lot of weeding and mowing to do!

Those look great. I'm a huge fan of simple, classic and clean-lined and those fit the bill perfectly! I was going to say also what others have said that we call those Adirondack chairs in the US and didn't realize they went by something else in Canada. Learn something new every day from our Canadian friends!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ami,
DeleteWe call them both Muskoka and Anirondack up here. It just the box said Muskoka so I wrote Muskoka!! :)

ReplyDeleteLove the new chairs. . .and you really can't beat the price of them. They look great on your patio.

Those Adirondack (I didn't know Canadians called them Muskoka!) chairs look fabulous... I liked your sweet little bench, but these guys look even better and what a deal! I told you The Real Canadian Superstore is like "Walmart on Crack." :)
ReplyDeleteWe snagged our Adironacks from a a neighbor's "free" pile... my uncle restored them and gave them a fresh coat of white paint. They're the best outdoor chairs. Have fun relaxing in them.
Haha We call them both Muskoka and Anirondack up here, it's just the box said Muskoka on it so I wrote Muskoka!! ;)
DeleteAnd you're totally right, Superstore is like walmart on crack!
What a steal! Adirondack's cost a fortune here. I've been wanting some for awhile now. Love the color of yours.
ReplyDeleteLove the new chairs! They look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hot tip - we're moving in August and our new house has a balcony off the top floor so we've been looking for something for it. Muskoka chairs can be so pricey so I ran out at lunch to pick two up. Can't wait to use them!!
ReplyDeleteloving those chairs (and the price)! The lobster pillow is fab too!
ReplyDeleteLove the chairs! Love the color, I have a navy front door and shutters on our home. :) So because I am curious, nosey , whatever you want to call it, : ) Is that a stairway behind the chairs? where does it go? Love your blog Ashli!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Renee,
DeleteThat is a stairway behind our chairs, it goes down to our basement walkout. We have a one bedroom in law suite down there if we choose to rent it out. Or we can choose to knock down the wall and have the entire basement to ourselves. Since we have more then enough room already, we haven't done a single thing to the basement yet. But as soon as we do I'll make sure to write a post about it!
Thanks for asking though, that's a good eye you have there!!!
Lots of Love
Ashli
now that's totally more like what i had in mind for your patio. you've pulled a design there that looks like a million bucks! am loving the grass and the iron lantern thingy on your side table.
ReplyDeletebtw, the Muskoka chairs in resin are for $24.00 at Canadian Tire right now, and available in the adorable green shade that matches your lamps. :)
