Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.
Oh that darn desk chair debacle. I thought we were on the same page. We agreed on most items in our home, some items we compromised on but generally we we're on the same page. And then we decided to turn the library into an office and suddenly Lee's oil and I'm vinegar.
My idea of a desk chair was a beautiful slipcovered Wingback (this one is from Restoration Hardware). Lee's idea of a desk chair was a "real" Desk Chair with a swivel and wheels.
Clearly, Lee Won.
I completely understand wanting a "real" desk chair, It makes sitting for long periods of time more comfortable. But did it have to be black? ? ? hehe
Lee found his chair on craigslist, I resisted but once it was home and in it spot, I kind of began to warm up to the idea of a "real" desk chair.
The black of the chair matched the black from the frames behind it, and it had a really nice line to it, and the price tag . . . $40, I was on board with the "real" chair.
We had a little sheepskin from Ikea hanging around the house, so I added that to the back (sorry about the bad photo we had some seriously direct sunlight that day). I might pick up a larger sheepskin or maybe DIY one with some faux fur. Ideally I'd like it to drape down onto the seat, I can never resist the urge to drape sheepskin over something! Seriously I would cover my own mother in sheepskin.
So, there's our new desk chair.
The last step will be finding some super unique, really fun desk accessories. We need an inbox, and we could figure out a way to get a desk lamp with out having the cord running on top of the carpet that would be a fantastic!
Anyone else compromised only to find out it wasn't that bad?

Ok, I will agree with Lee! I love my swivel chair as you know. And, what a steal!! I also love the black, truth be told. It pulls the black in from the frames as you stated and the staircase, and really anchors the room. Looking good!!
ReplyDeleteYes, it looks great! The other chair is so pretty though, can't it live in a corner? To sip tea in maybe?!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks good & you will probably be glad for it.
ReplyDeleteI love....I don't have a hubby, so I don't have to compromise and blend styles. However, I am very familiar with compromising because of my budget! I'm always looking for ways to get the look I love in the tight budget I'm working with. I tend to find the challenge of compromising quite fun!
ReplyDeleteLove your office. The desk chair works so well. A successful compromise for sure!
I love the swivel chair! Right now I have one of those cheap folding chairs that we originally bought to pull out when we needed extra seating when my family came over. I find it annoying but I'm not ready to buy something else (haha, although what I want is an exercise ball--I love sitting on those when working at the computer!).
ReplyDeleteLove the "girl" chair, but I cannot see any guy enjoying working from it! Ha. But, adding the sheepskin to the back of the swivel softens it a lot. Good creativity.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I noticed was you changed out your pictures on the back wall -- correct? when did that happen? Or am I confused?
Thanks Gail,
DeleteWe switched out 1 piece of art beside the bird cage. It was an old family painting of my Great Grandmothers view from her kitchen window.
I'll add some closeups when we're done and do a final reveal post! !
Good Eye!
Lots of Love

Haha, the dreaded manly "real" desk chair. We have one of those... thank goodness it's (mostly) hidden in the office. But the one Lee found looks fantastic and actually looks good in the room. I love Craigslist.
ReplyDeleteI think your choice would look way better . .. but no, the swivel does not look bad. Better than the the UGLY office chair I am sitting on that my husband just went off to Walmart and purchased all by himself . .. and it was not even all that great a price! Arggh.

Ha, I really had to laugh at this post, Ashli. My husband and I had the EXACT same experience...we went to IKEA a few months ago with the idea to buy whatever desk chairs he wanted, and believe it or not, there were two (only two!) leather office chairs left. IN WHITE. HALF PRICE. It's like I was rewarded for compromising, LOL. In any case, both chairs also have the white sheepskin thrown on top too! :-)
ReplyDeleteI bet you could find a battery-powered LED desk lamp to avoid the cord issues. LEDs need so little powerr that a battery would still be enough juice to give decent light. I haven't looked but it sounds like something Ikea would carry.
ReplyDeleteYou are brilliant Firesparx, thank you for that suggestion! My office is small and only has one powerpoint, which means we already have heaps of cables running everywhere, but I really need more light. An LED lamp would be the perfect solution!
DeleteThe new chair looks fantastic and I really love the chrome look it has, that's different!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all...love the lines on the new "real" desk chair. And...I laughed so hard this weekend. I got to see my friend's (unfinished) home office for the first time this weekend...and she has the SAME desk!
ReplyDeleteI almost bought 6 of these for my dining room. LOL.

Maybe would have been a tiny bit of overkill (with the rest of the white) but I would have come to terms with the compromise if he would have had the functional chair in a cool color (say yellow) or even in white. I can see where both of you were coming from. My husband is totally on the black office chair traditionalist front. For as long as I could get away with it, I had an Eames inspired lounger in here too. It just didn't work too well (smile).

I agree with Lauren! I have a very similar chair in white for my home office. I feel like I need a chair with wheels, but your choice is so pretty!
