I am head over heels in LOVE with this door, Lee did an amazing job and will definitely NOT be getting coal in his stocking!
Here she is, a lot of wood, a bit of metal, a couple coats of Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint, Lee's Blood and sweat, and maybe tears (I don't know what goes on in that garage of ours).
And, Here she is in ACTION:
Lee made the door and track himself!
Here are some of the 'finer details'
The handle is from Lee Valley, it was originally brushed nickle and we sprayed it oil rubbed bronze to match the track.
As I mentioned before Lee made the track himself, we have a small welder in the garage and in a couple hours Lee came back in the house with a fully functional track.
He also welded up the bracket for the door, with a secret hidden safety feature,
and last we had to add a guide. Because the door is hanging when you opened and closed it, it tended to swing out a bit, so Lee welded up a guide and fastened it to the baseboard. He cut a channel into the bottom of the door and then we cap off the channel with two little metal plates and that stops the door from hitting the wall on one side or coming off the end of the track on the other end.
So there she is, all done!
Next step move the table back in and hang the art!!!
Wow what man you have!!!!!!! The door is amazing!! Now I know why you cook all those great dinners for your hubby! :))
ReplyDeleteI love that door, it looks fantastic. I would love to have one too in our dining area, but unfortunately there is not enough room next to the door... so I have to come up with another good idea. I wish my husband could make things like that ...

Looks fabulous! Your photos of the door "in action" made me giggle, thanks for making my morning!
ReplyDeleteYour door looks amazing!!! Bravo to you both on a job well done :) I love the size, so many of them you see around look overwhelmingly big to me. I am, sadly, lacking a place in my own home where I could have one, but I sure love yours. I know everytime you look at it and use it you will really enjoy it. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed that you made this! What a great job you did, it looks so pro.
ReplyDeleteSWOON I am loving it!! Great job Lee and lucky you Ashli!!!
ReplyDeleteOh man, it looks great...does this mean I have to take up welding now to finally get the door stop that I've been searching high and low for? Heeee. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThis is very very cool!!! Lee did a great job on your barn door!!
ReplyDeleteit looks amazing!! You are lucky to have a man that can make things!! The cream was the way to go. Looking forward to seeing the dining room put back together with the new artwork. :)

ReplyDeleteLove that door! Lee the Amazing strikes again!
ReplyDeleteWow, Ashli! This door is incredible...I'm thinking Lee has a future as a designer if his job ever ends (or gets too boring -- haha).
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love it!!
ReplyDeleteThis is completely fantastic ~ I'm so impressed!!
ReplyDeleteI've never commented before, but I have to say WOW!!!! Definitely worth the wait. Great job!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love it! Your hubs did an amazing job. Let me know when I can borrow him! ;)
ReplyDeleteAshli! That barn door is completely amazing and I agree with another commenter that said the scale was perfect. I've seen a lot of barn door makeovers (I'm kind of obsessed) and the scale always looks crazy off. So congratulations to you and Lee for a job well done as usual! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! What a great early Christmas gift.
ReplyDeleteAshli, this is simply fabulous!! Love, love, love it!
ReplyDeleteThat looks amazing!! Any chance Lee can hope on a plane to Australia and make me one. My hubby's just not that handy. lol.
ReplyDeleteSorry Ash, but Lee is getting 99.9% of the praise for this one ;-) The door is beautiful! He did an amazing job. I am super impressed that the entire thing (other than the door handle) is made with his hands. Way to go Lee!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning! I have the PERFECT place for one in my house (but no husband to weld it, I need to find someone to trade with me!) Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Lee!!! And can Europe please be second on the list after Australia? ;) Lee could be a travellling craftsman and you could join him and fix some desasterous household in the unique Manor style. Wouldn't that sound great? Sort of work and travel programme. But I guess having such a beautiful home yourself you don't feel the urge to go abroad*sigh* poor us ;)
ReplyDeletehaha I'll start booking his flights ;)
ReplyDeleteAustralia, then Europe! Love it!

I love your barn door. You have a very talented and handy hubby! Now I know why you make him such yummy dishes, he deserves to be pampered. Congrats on another fabulous completed project.
ReplyDeleteImpressive! ;)
ReplyDeleteSo absolutely fantastic, Ashli!! I have it in mind to install 2 similar doors in my basement, but when we priced the tracks they were waaaayyy out of our budget!! I'm wondering... would your Lee consider quoting us on ours? Fingers crossed!!
ReplyDeleteVictoria
WOWZA.....I want one so badly. Your husband is a genius, and how sweet to make this for you :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so very very lovely! Awesome job, Lee! I have a major crush on barn doors. My husband doesn't. But I'm telling you, if I ever have a home where a barn door would be perfect, we will have one!

What is the name of the handle? I can't find it on lee valleys website. Thanks for for your help.
ReplyDeleteHi Anna,
DeleteI just looked it up!
It's Called:
Solid Stainless-Steel Square Handles
01W84.14 192mm
It's on page 69 of their hardware catalog!
They only come in brushed nickel so we sprayed ours oilrubbed bronze to match the barn door hardware!
Hope that helps
Ashli
Just popped over from The Shabby Nest, this is beautiful. Very well done! So glad I found your sweet little blog, following along via GFC. Happy Friday!

Okay Lee, first the flowers, now this?! You are getting some major points here.
ReplyDeleteI love it!!! I want one. I think my hubby could do this, It's just getting him to do it:) Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me how he made the actual door? Did he just add trim pieces to an existing door?
ReplyDeleteHi Made the door just by making the outer frame with the bar across the front, and securing all of the back boards to it!
DeleteHope that helps a bit.
Ashli
Did you do anything to the existing inside door frame to cover up where the brackets and door jam was before? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSuper Job on the door. Where did you source the wheels that run on the track?
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful blog you have created and a wonderful post about your barn door. I recently posted an article on my blog about barn doors ( http://billiemakesahome.info/?p=299 ) and you my friend have provided me with even more inspiration to create a barn door.
ReplyDeleteThanks
