Last week at the grocery store I was stopped in my tracks by a very well priced bouquet of Lisianthus. I'd never heard of them before, but they we lovely and on sale, and . . . . since it wasn't a paycheck week, I gently placed them in the cart and kept moving. Maybe Lee wouldn't notice :)
I thought about how lovely they would be once all the buds opened up, well . . . that never happened :( But a lovely arrangement none the less.
He didn't live very long, and looked quite shabby before the week was up. But he was lovely until his young demise.
A few facts on Lisianthus:
-The double-headed type of this blossom is similar in appearance to a peony or rose; while a single head may resemble a poppy or tulip.
-In addition to their many styles, Lisianthus flowers come in several colors – from varying shades of white and pink, all the way to rich shades of blue and purple.
-The Lisianthus flower is rife with rich and potent symbolism. Because of this, these flowers are frequently given as gifts for a number of occasions.
-For instance, they may be presented as a thank you present, as they are thought to be an emblem of appreciation;
-they can be given as romantic gifts, as they can symbolize a deeply felt romantic attachment;
-The Lisianthus flower has four wide ruffled, delicate petals and oval leaves.
-Colors include white, light and dark pink, lavender and deep purple.
I've also heard of them being commonly used as a wedding flower, wish I had thought of that! I had lilies that stained my dress :(

They were beautiful...before I scrolled down I said to myself, "they look like a cross between a peony and a rose". Both I have in my yard, although they are gone for this year (too hot). I love lilies but hate the mess. But, I did learn the trick is to pull out the stamen? I believe that is the technical term for the part that drops dusty particles and stains everything.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame the buds didn't open. Still it's a lovely arangement.
ReplyDeleteYes LKJ I also trim the lily stamen as it creates a mess and stains.
Ashli you and Lee should write a manual aimed at young couples on how to spend sensibly and live within ones means.
Such a wise pair you are!
xx
I should have clipped them out, but the little orange stain on my wedding dress leaves me with giggles.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the lovely suggestion, I was thinking after we settle into the new house I'd write an E-Book or maybe an E-Magazine (that might be better)
You're too nice!! Thanks so much, your comment made me smile :)

ReplyDeleteWere you able to get the link working for putting buttons side by side? Mine actaully never posted together, just underneath. I'm thinking it might have to do with the size of my column widths....Not sure. I hope you enjoy your MOnday :)
