    Door Stop

I was searching for a new door stop, one that didn't sit on the floor as every square foot is worth fighting for in our house. I saw this one in a magazine and thought "hey I could do that" "Lee can do that". We started by taking an old fence post my parents had from the previous summer. Lee very dangerously cautiously used a chop saw to cut the wood into a triangle (I don't know the exact details I was told to make my exit after I merely suggested he not loose any fingers). He drilled a hole into the thick part of the wood using a cordless drill and a large drill bit, you'll also need a bench vise to make sure the wood stays in place. Once Lee handed over the wood wedge (all fingers intact), I sanded it smooth, and painted it white. Once the paint dried, I sanded the edges, sanded a bit in the middle, just enough to show some of the wood and give it a well used look. I bought some chocolate brown satin ribbon strung it through the hole and tied a beautiful bow.
Once the ribbon was attached I put the it under the door, and waited to see it in action, the door slammed shut, hard! A quick trip to home depot to pick up some rubber sticky pads and the problem was solved. I promptly hung it on the door knob behind the front door. It's one of my favorite projects we've tackled and the bonus is we use it daily!

    Total Cost: 75 cents
    Wood: Stolen from parents Free
    Paint: Leftover Free
    Sandpaper: Stolen from parents Free
    Ribbon: 75 cents from walmart
I was amazed at walmarts ribbon selection and the prices were pretty good too. I went to the by the yard ribbon section and the particular ribbon I bought was $1.39 for a yard and we only used half a yard for our door stop.

How is it that you can make something as ordinary as a door stop be so beautiful, great idea.

Thanks so much! All the credit really goes to Lee on this one! I risked no fingers and he risked them all!
