Take it easy,
Don't you know.
That I have never been loved like this before . . .
That I have never been loved like this before . . .
Baby Baby!
I hope this song reference doesn't go over some of our younger readers heads. It's totally not the point of this post . . . but I love that song!
We found a rocker at The Salvation Army thrift store for $20! Every mother I spoke to said you NEED a rocking chair, and I refuse to buy a glider . . . I know they are great but there is nothing you can tell me to make me buy a glider. BUT we are going to buy a metal rocking base for one of our chairs in the living room so we will have a chair that glides! (of course we will blog about it when it happens)
Since we don't know if we are going to be chosen to adopt a boy or a girl . . . or even if we will be chosen . . . or when (have I mentioned waiting is hard??) haha We've decided to do a really natural nursery. Natural wood tones . . . solid wood furniture . . . things like that. So when I saw this solid wood rocker on sale for $20 I picked it up.
Check out the construction:
We still need to add a cushion to the seat and the back but we are really excited to have this part of the nursery done.
So excited we thought we should practice baby rocking with Max.
In other news . . . Max does not enjoy rocking. :(
These are popular all over the world apparently. We have the exact same model and we live in Romania. My mother-in-law also has the same model. You look very cute rocking Max.
ReplyDeleteYour rocking chair is beautiful and that's too cute with you two "practising" - and I love that song too!
ReplyDeleteGreat chair! Waiting is hard - we have our first home study for foster-to-adopt next week - hoping we are approved, and you too!!
ReplyDeleteRocking chair chair is much better than a glider. This one looks sweet and cozy. Good luck and remember "the best things come to those who wait" :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love the pics of you guys rocking Max, and I love that Max doesn't like to be rocked. :P
ReplyDeleteI hope you guys don't have to wait too long.
Ha ha! I love the last two photos!
ReplyDeleteToo cute :) Is your sister going to do any paintings for the nursery? Happy Thursday :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find .. pity the dog doesnt appreciate the rocking! I have my fingers and toes crossed for you xx
ReplyDeleteWe had one just like it in a cherry finish when the girls were little. I do have to say however, Lee is a bit big for the chair! LOL Too funny about Max. I don't think Kylee would like rocking either.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the rocking chair thing. I don't get the attraction to gliders. My mom had that same chair when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of you guys rocking Max cracked me up, I imagined rocking my 80 pound yellow lab. It would go even less well.
Too adorable you guys rocking Max, I hope the wait will not be long. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteMy mom had a beautiful dark wood rocking chair when I was a baby. My mom passed it to my husband and I and it sits in our living room with a beautiful pillow. We love it and it reminds me of how important it is to cherish each day - time moves too quickly.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy these planning moments - before you know it, your beautiful baby will be getting married themselves.
Best wishes!
You chair is very cute but I would HIGHLY recommend the following

You can also take naps in this chair while feeding your new baby!!!

I love that song! Great rocker!
ReplyDeleteYou two (three if I include Max) are the cutest.
ReplyDeleteI think you made a wise (and beautiful) choice. My son would not nurse or settle down in our glider, I had to use my grandmother's rocking chair and then he was happy as a clam.
ReplyDeleteEven now (he is 10) he loves to sit in the chair and watch TV or read.
LOL! You guys are too cute!
ReplyDeleteChristine
Ashli, if I remember correctly your chair is called a Boston rocker or at least it is very similar to one. I had one for my two babies many years ago spent wonderful hours in it. I deeply regret letting it get away. May you enjoy many hours of bliss rocking in your new chair.
ReplyDeletey'all look so natural in that rocking chair! and max will enjoy being at your feet much more, lol!! right now is the perfect time to get cushions you can get the big fat fluffy outdoor chair cushions. they are longer for the back since most outdoor chairs are like that now, they are perfect!
ReplyDeleteYou are just too adorable with that rocking chair. Yes you do need one. Especially for that bonding time.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to keep seeing you be blessed.

Awwwwww - look how adorable you two are....so sweet !
ReplyDeleteGreat chair for $20.00. You really have good eyes! The pictures are great. And Max, well he is just adorable.
ReplyDeleteYou make me smile!! My heart sings for you all xx
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet Ashli! Love the old school rockers... my sister just inherited ours from my mom and she's so excited. Keeping my fingers crossed for you guys-- the waiting must be so hard!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos with Max! So cute. Just wondering why don't you like gliders?
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
DeleteI''m just not a big fan of the old gliders with the big bases and weird cushions. But they are making some really nice gliders now with smaller bases and nicer cushions!
Lots of Love
Ashli
Ashli,
ReplyDeleteThis post's pictures are cuuuuuute. (I refused to buy a glider too.)
Your chair is similar to ours- that my Mom just shipped from several states away because last week we finally had our first foster (hopefully adopt one day) placement. We went from no kids to suddenly have 2 under age 2, almost exactly 1 year apart. Boy have I wished I already had the rocker! Mine was the one my Mom used to rock me as a baby and that was alwys in my room growing up. I don't know what age you are expecting to adopt but if there is a chance it will be sudden and unexpected have as much done ahead of time as possible- meals ready in the freezer, baby gates installed ( tension mount are no good if you get a toddler), some formula & bottles already bought. We didn't do this because we really didn't think there was much chance of a baby- surprise, now we have 2! We had a very difficult 3 month wait. We are exhausted now but loving every moment.
ReplyDeleteOooh I really hope you get your baby soon! I'm thinking about you and sending good wishes your way!
ReplyDeleteSuch a perfectly classic looking chair! I also didn't want one of those ugly gliders, we ended up with a chair from EQ3 that rocks and it was our best purchase we still use it many, many times a day!
ReplyDeleteIt, however, was not $20 - great find on this one!
Haha! Poor Max ;-)
ReplyDeleteKatharina
Your photos of rocking Max looked so cute and I know you will be dreaming about being parents and wishing your dreams to come true.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I love it.very interesting to read thank you
