I will set the scene . . . . it's a snowy winter's eve. Lee and I are in bed, the kitchen is empty except for the tea pot and an electric kettle. They light the flame on the gas stove, casting a beautiful glow across the room. The tea pot thought the kettle was hot ;), and the kettle liked the way the tea pot warmed up to him ;). Steam filled the room. One thing led to another and 4 months later (a tea pot's gestation period is 4 months apparently) they were the proud parents of our new Electric Kettle!
Unfortunately it was a rough delivery for the tea pot :(

I am hoping you surmised that our new kettle is half tea pot and half kettle. Except that it doesn't make tea . . . it only inherited the ceramic-ness from it's tea pot mother, other than that it got all of it's traits from his dad (the kettle).
I'll stop talking in code now. (I think I hear a collective sigh ;)
We picked up an electric kettle from Target (here is the Link). For the last 3 years we've been heating water for our tea in a pot on the stove. We decided it was time to come out of the dark ages and pick up an electric kettle. I wanted one that was attractive. Lee wanted to make sure it could be removed from the base. Wandering through Target I found exactly what we were looking for. I loved the blue pattern which matches our tea cup measuring scoops inside our flour and sugar jars. But mostly I loved that it was ceramic and felt just like a tea pot!
We LOVE tea. I am a peppermint tea girl and Lee is a green tea guy so beside our electric kettle we set up a little tea station. I found the 3 glass jars at Homesense and filled them with three different kinds of Tea, loose leaf green tea, organic peppermint tea bag, and green tea bags for tea on the go.
Lastly I have always loved hanging coffee mugs. If you use a mug everyday it kind of makes sense to have them out and within close reach. Especially when they have cute little numbers on them like this set of four from Urban Barn, or our initial mugs from Chapters. ;)
6 cup hooks from Lowes and we had our very own tea station. I made sure that the hooks were white so that they would blend into the white mug handles, and I didn't want to see the hooks while I was standing in the kitchen.
It's the age old story, tea pot . . . meets . . . electric kettle and Target sells their babies (that sentence was much creepier than I thought it would be).
Love the story! Love the tea station. We are coffee drinkers in my house and have a coffee station. Our guests get a kick out of all the choices they have. I love the hanging cup idea. Right now I have them set up on a little tray, but yours are up and out of the way. Love it!
ReplyDeleteLove the tea station! I am addicted to tea and drink it every morning.
ReplyDeleteBut, I have to ask... whatever happened to your tea pot? How did it break?
It is simple: A teapot is used for brewing tea; a kettle boils the water for it. An electric kettle is nice because a lot of them shut themselves off and heat water quicker.
ReplyDeleteAm I understanding correctly that you were using the teapot on the stove??
ReplyDeleteHi there. No, she said "For the last 3 years we've been heating water FOR our tea in a pot on the stove" I think she meant in a normal pot on the stove to then put the hot water in the teapot. ;)

Oh Ashli I love it! I'm a coffee drinker (I even have a coffee/tea station in my family room) and this is exactly what I was looking for to keep the water hot. I also heat the water the same way you used to . It looks just like a normal ceramic coffee pot. Good find!

OMG cutest electric kettle ever...must get me one. cups look good hanging of the counter, also I enjoyed the birth story.
ReplyDeletehahaha, i luv that pattern!
ReplyDeleteThat's an adorable electric tea kettle pot. :) We got our electric kettle a few years ago and it changed our lives! We're big tea drinkers, too, so we have a little tea setup next to our bright red kettle. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI really wish I liked tea. Maybe I'm not drinking the right type. What kind of green tea does your hubby drink? Do you put honey or anything in it to make it taste less bitter?
ReplyDeleteI hated tea for years as well. I drink peppermint tea without sugar or honey. Lee drinks green tea from the asian food store. That's his favorite.
ReplyDeleteMost asian food marts have a good selection. He also mentions that looseleaf green tea tastes better thank green tea in tea bag form. I am not sure how that is possible but he says it's true ;)
Haha
Lots of Love
Ashli
I have been holding onto cup hooks for a few months because I couldn't quite figure out how apart to install them. Do you know the measurements?
ReplyDeleteLove your new tea kettle! We LOVE our Keurig because we all like something different (and I hated throwing out pots of coffee when we had company since some like regular/some decaf/some flavored). This way everyone wins!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable station! I have been on the hunt for a new kettle for months. Just subscribed last night to your blog and was delighted by your post today! I just returned from Target and am now a proud owner of the one in your post! Thank you for providing the link!
ReplyDeleteI love the whole tea station setup! I've been toying with the idea of getting an electric kettle since we were in Europe, they're so convenient. I love the one you chose and your mugs are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am a tea lover as well. Great idea with the tea station! Have you tried loose leaf tea? I was introduced to 'Steeped Tea' and have never looked back, it turned me into a bit of a tea snob. They are fantastic and I love that they are Fair Trade. Really interesting flavors too. They have a website and they were recently on Dragon's Den. Currently sipping some Cherry Pie tea- so delish!! Just found you recently through Pinterest and loving the blog! It's great to see some local talent (although it seems Vancouver Island still does not have much access to many of the stores!)
ReplyDeleteSo cute!! I haven't seen that tea kettle at our Target yet. I am too a lover of peppermint tea, ever since Mom gave me some for Christmas it's all I buy! XO
