Yup, You read that right . . . I just titled a post "Dill Weed on my Bed", I should just retire from blogging right now! Hopefully the title caught your attention, in a "gee, I wonder what that's about" way and not in a "I'm going to stop following this chick . . . she's weird" way.
I'm just going to move on and start explaining before "I'm going to stop following this chick . . . she's crazy" seems like a great idea.
We picked up a new duvet and duvet cover. There are a couple of reasons why:
1) We use to have a comforter that didn't have a removable cover and because Max frequently sleeps in the bed I wanted something that was easier to wash regularly.
2) Every time I did go to wash it, I would have to take it to the laundry mat because it wouldn't fit into our washing machine. As much as I love creepy men throwing their laundry into the washing machine with my laundry (seriously that happened to me once when we were renting). I hate taking that time out of my day to trek up to the laundry mat (however, I do enjoy the outdated trashy magazines).
Our bestest friends just picked up a kind size bed and needed all new linens. They were saying that they couldn't find anything they really liked and didn't want to fork out a ton of cash for something they didn't like but had to buy. I offered them our comforter and after a ton of dirty jokes about what was done on it/under it (we're classy like that), they took it home. I was really happy that they were able to use it, because we only used it in the winter and it was only a year old. Most secondhand stores won't take bed linens so needless to say . . . I was thrilled it wasn't ending up in the dumpster!
Now, on to our new duvet and duvet cover, ta-da:
We picked up the duvet cover from a Swedish store here in Canada called JYSK. The duvet cover with two matching shams cost $45.99. It took me forever to source a duvet cover, that didn't break the bank and wasn't made of synthetic materials. I believe that our beds should be as natural as possible! This set was made of 100% cotton!
I also love the Dill Weed pattern.
p.s. I made that quilt!! :)
But perhaps the clincher was the green dots. Join me for a trip down memory lane, remember when the living room had green and blue accents well now that it's Switzerland (all neutral), I had a few green and blue accents leftover. I was able to move the lamps into the guest room, and I'm hoping to move the rest of the green into the bedroom.
Also in the works I'm planning to make three Euro Shams (Square pillow cases) for behind the pillows, mostly because I know how much Lee 'LOVES' throw pillows on the bed. haha NOT.
I found a green polka dot fabric, that has exactly the same shade of green as the duvet, so hopefully next week I'll get working on those!
And lastly I should take about our duvet. We went with a feather duvet. I grew up with feather duvets and I loved them. I do have some mild feather allergies, but I've always found that as long as a duvet is Hypoallergenic I'm A OK. We found our feather duvet on Overstock.com. It was a great price at just under $100 for a KING. And most importantly, it's made with an all natural chemical free 100% cotton shell.
I hope you like our Dilly Bed as much as we do! I'm working on a post about the elements of a clean, green Bed. And we just ordered our organic Latex Mattress topper!!! So excited!!! It should arrive next week!

I am in love with that green color and use it a lot! Pretty duvet :)
ReplyDeletegorgeous! Thanks for the tip on Jysk - I'll have to check out that store soon!!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! I'm sure this has been asked before, but where did you get your bedside tables?
ReplyDeleteThanks Erika,
DeleteThey're from Homesense, I picked them up almost 5 years ago for $140 each!!
Hope that helps a bit!

DeleteThe bed is from Ikea! It's seriously one of their cheapest beds. A brand new queen is only $169!!! It's called Lillesand!
We Love it, it's super sturdy.
Also don't forget to check out craigslist. We found ours on craigslist for $90!
Hope that helps

i just read the articles in the magazines to the right here where y'all where featured that is sooooo cool!
ReplyDeleteLove the new duvet, it is such a beautiful green and so fresh looking in your room. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteOooh I love the green dill! Super cute! I can't wait to see the room once you finish the euro shams!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! It feels like a room from a relaxing spa getaway. I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove the change! We just purchased a new duvet and insert for Katie yesterday. I plan to send her to school with a duvet as well...so much easier to wash than a comforter! I am loving that green color!!
ReplyDeleteHey, I almost bought the same cover but it was too green in person for my room- I thought it was queen anne's lace but now that you mention it, it does look more like dill weed. It looks beautiful on your bed- i like that it's subtle & pretty without being too flowery.
ReplyDeletebtw, just for the record, JYSK is a Danish company- but clearly they model themselves after another international home store of Swedish origin. More like IKEA-lite!
I love it. I bought a duvet set last year from Crate & Barrel after my sis-in-law introduced me to them. Didn't even know what it was for a long time. Anyway it was a green and white pattern a little bolder green than yours. But I love it because it is easier to wash and maintain even though it takes me about half an hour to get the comforter in it. LOL. I am in the process of redecoring (not sure if that's a word) my bedroom since my hubby offered to give it a new paint job. And since I am now obsessed with all your wondeful site has to offer and all these HGTV types of great blogs out there, I was really inspired to get my butt into gear and make my home a haven. So my question to you is if you or anyone reading can offer any bit of advice. When doing over a room, should I choose the paint color first and then accessorize? I would like to keep the bedding set I have now until I can change later on so I wanted to make sure I was going about it the right way. I am new to this so I could really use a bit of advice. Again Ashli, love you blog and your great sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteRacquel (the parrot lady) LOL.
Hi Racquel!!!
DeleteIn the perfect world what I like to do (I learnt it from Sarah Richardson), Pick a fabric you love (even if it's just for a throw pillow). Then pick all the colors for the room from that fabric.
Here's how I did it in the living room:

I hope that helps you!!! Good luck on your project!!! Woo Hoo!!!!

Wow it's so pretty! I really want a new cover for our bed because ours is brown & so dark. But I'm concerned about getting a light/white one because our dog gets on the bed pretty much every morning & I'm afraid it'll look really dirty really fast. Have you found this to be the case? Or does "dog dirt" easily come off in the washer? How often do you wash it too? I wash my sheets every week, but my brown cover only about once a month or 6 weeks or so.
ReplyDeleteMax is a very tidy dog, for example he doesn't like to walk in grass, or rain, and especially mud or dirt. He's a city dog and only like concrete, He even does his peeps and poops on concrete!
DeleteSo I'm not too worried about him bringing dirt onto the bed. With that being said . . . there is still some dog related dirt.
My theory was that as long as it's 100% cotton and really washable we could get anything out!!! and if we can't we can always flip it!
I wash my sheets weekly! and I wash my duvet cover monthly. And I plan on hanging the duvet itself out in the sun every 6 months. (the sun will get rid of odors and dust mites!!)
Hope that helps you!!!
Lots of Love

Once you make the euro sham could you post how much fabric it took? I would love to make some for my own bed but wouldn't know how much fabric to purchase.
ReplyDeleteHI Elizabeth,
DeleteI definitely can!
I've already purchased 2 yards of fabric! So I'm hoping I can get it done with that amount! I'll keep you posted!
Lots of love

I picked up the the Healthy Home after you mentioned it in one of your posts. It has opened my eyes and I am in the process of making healthy changes in my home. Very interested to hear how you like the organic mattress topper and looking forward to your post on the elements of a green bed.
ReplyDeleteHi, it looks great!! Just wondering where you purchased your bed frame, it is so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!

Looks so nice! Liking the pops of green!
ReplyDeleteVery cute title (But I think it's Queen Anne's Lace rather than Dill, which might make you feel a bit better lol).
ReplyDeleteBedroom looks lovely. You are such a talented girl.
In addition to being a pretty comic :-), you're a good designer. Your room's beautiful. Our living room is going to be a sagey green, if we can ever get it painted. That's a DIY that's impossible with our back and neck arthritis, stenosis and the cathedral ceilings have to be done first, got someone for that finally. I'll be posting and asking for suggestions I'm sure. Janet
ReplyDeleteIs a very nice bed. You want to sleep in the bed I also like this. I will do a wonderful dream.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!...And just to weigh in on the dill vs. Queen Anne's lace debate, that is definitely dill. {Queen Anne's lace grows wild where I live & we're surrounded by acres of it in the summer, so I know it when I see it :) }
ReplyDeleteI think the dill looks very lovely, very fresh, and light, and airy. I am really interested in the ceiling lamp in your bedroom. I can just see enough of it to make me go: 'Ohhhh, haben wollen!' (Wanna have it NOW in German). Would you please tell me where you got it? Sorry if you mentioned it before, and I missed it. Your recent tip about the Martha Stewart wall paint sent me in the right direction, and I'm hoping that I can switch out our God-forsaken crystal chandelier for something more up to date. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Iris,
DeleteIt was a $200 craigslist find. I typed Restoration Hardware into Craigslist and it came up with this chandelier from Restoration Hardware!!!
Hope that helps a bit!!

I think the dill on your bed is great! I'm a big fan of green -- both the color & the environmental kind. I also love the look of that kind of soft messiness that comes with a duvet & its cover. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteCAS
Is that the same dill pattern I spy on your blog background? Looks lovely! Both the background and your new duvet.
ReplyDeleteIt was . . . Hopefully I can figure out how to get the glitches worked out on the blog and get the new layout finalized!!!
DeleteThanks for noticing Lisa!!!
Lots of Love
Ashli
What a deal that was....It is so fresh....I am with you...cotton...easy washable!
ReplyDeleteWow I love your bed, so green and clean!
