Just like there are two sides to every story, there is also two sides to our master bedroom.
You've seen the "focal point side", the paneled wall, the picture frames,
now meet our lesser known side!
I think every Master bedroom needs a chair, somewhere to put your socks on in the morning, somewhere to kick back with a book, somewhere besides the bed to, well . . . you know ;)
just kidding! haha
I've always LOVED Pottery Barn's Basic Slipcovered Chair, but at $1089 - $1800 I wasn't about to indulge myself. The Ikea Ektorp Armchair is a dead ringer for the Pottery Barn version and at $250 it was a much more reasonable pursuit. It's Big, it's comfy and it's slipcovered so it's totally washable.
You can't have a big comfy reading chair without an ottoman, so we bought the matching Ikea Bromma Ottoman at $99. It opens up for storage, a blanket and maybe a little pillow.
And remember that Farsbo Lamp I bought from Ikea for $21.99 for our Upstairs Hallway Project, but due to the lack of an electrical outlet on that side we couldn't use it . . . I found a place for it right beside BIG WHITE (it's what we're calling the new chair, it's also a name of a great ski hill around here, but I digress).
And just in case you missed our Master Bedroom Reveal, the curtains are Ikea Lenda Curtains with the tabs cut off and clip rings used instead. And the Bamboo Roman Blinds are from Walmart, for a whopping good deal @ $20.00 each.
We're still making progress on Lee's wardrobe. I used my veto power and veto the sharing of the walk-in, a girl needs her own space. So we picked up a big box store white wardrobe and are trying to add some character to it, I'll be sure to let you know how it goes :)

I <3 Ikea !
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT!!! I am actually hitting up ikea this coming weekend to buy chairs for a sitting area we have in our master bedroom. We have a niche in the corner of our room with 2 windows and I want to buy 2 chairs, one ottoman and maybe a little table. I was thinking of the jennylund chairs and the ottoman you have downstairs, but this also looks nice. what are your thoughts on the two for a master bedroom?
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have this exact chair in the corner of our bedroom! We went with a leather storage ottoman to add a nice "masculine" blend to the more "feminine" white. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Ashli! I stumbled across your blog a few weeks ago and I have loved it ever since! :) I noticed you were from BC and this post you mentioned big white...so it seems you are living in my much missed k-town..or somewhere around there ;) i grew up there and have now moved to cold and flat edmonton :( i hope to visit this summer and spend some time on the beach, however! anyways, just wanted to say hi and your blog has been inspiring me!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done Ashli!
ReplyDeleteMany Blessings,
M.
I love the Ektorp chair but alas, no room in my boudoir (I can say that cuz I'm single) for it.
ReplyDeleteI love Big White! I've skied there a few times. My friend lives in Westbank so it's practically in her backyard.
laughing because even though said you're kidding, I bet you weren't. :)
ReplyDeleteI love Ikea. Wish there was one closer! Your bedroom is gorgeous!
divine.....I love your bedroom space!
ReplyDeleteLove the chair. So wanted to put our PB chair from downstairs in our bedroom, but it wouldn't fit! So, my sweet child has a great chair in her apartment!! LOL I do have a chair, just not as comfy (but sentimental as it was my Granny's and Great Granny's way back when). Love the wardrobe. Wish I could kick Mark out of "my" closet!! LOL
ReplyDeleteAnything you can match similar to pottery barn on a budget is going to be a decorating winner...go IKEA..... Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia
ReplyDeleteThat is hillarious. I wish I had that much veto power on the closet. Truth be told, my other half is the clothes fiend so he would get the walk in and I would get the wardrobe. So I'm not pushing that one too hard. Thinking more and more I agree with you about the chair in the bedroom. We used to have a comfy one, now we don't. And we actually have plenty of room for one now.

Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI think two chairs in the Master is a great Idea! Especially if you have kids and use the Master to get away from the madness occasionally. If you only use your bedroom to sleep and get dressed two chairs might be one too many :)
Hope that helps
A
Hi Dana!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you've made your way over! I don't live in kelowna, but we do travel there to ski and every July for an annual volleyball tournament! And we have lots of friends how LIVE there! You should definitely make a trip back, my sister was there last week and said it's amazing weather right now!!!
Lots of Love
Ashli
Your room is beautifully done, the greens and browns remind me of WickInn
ReplyDeleteOh how I want a fun chair like that in my master bedroom once we have our own home~
I love warm and cozy you have made that corner! Such a great job Ashli!
ReplyDeleteReally like how you got the store to match the wardrobe to the wall behind your bed...LOL. Love all the clean lines! Great, great job Ashli!
ReplyDeleteJust popped over form 6th St. You have a lovely home....looking forward to reading all about it.
ReplyDeleteWould you mind adding a link to the bamboo blinds from WalMart? I have been looking around on their website and can't seem to find the one's you used.
