Thanks to our little paint mix up the bathroom is now, white-white, you know that bright, crisp white you see on trim. Our solution, which worked like a charm, was to lower the wattage of the bulbs in the bathroom. As soon as we swapped our 60w equivalent bulbs for 40w equivalent bulbs (all CFLs) the room became less sunglasses requiring white and more crisp, clean sophisticated white.
You might notice the prints above the toilet, they are the same prints that use to live in our dining room. We needed to take photos for the real estate agents and I still hadn't found art for the powder room yet, so we took the dining room photos, then quickly hung them up in the powder room. Turns out I like them more in the powder room, so now I'm on the hunt for dining room art work.
We tried to keep the powder room very plain, it should be good for resale. We wanted to make sure it looked decorated with out looking cluttered.
My favorite part of the bathroom is the cute little succulent that sits beside the sink.
All and all we did pretty well, and came in way under budget. Here's the break down.
Toilet $40
Sink $45 (can you believe we got that sink for $45? Craigslist rocks)
Mirror $24.99 (Ikea)
Faucet $12.25 (Home Depot on super Clearance)
Chrome handle for toilet $4.99
Art work- Free (although I'll have to replace the dining room art so the final cost is yet to be seen)
Chrome Airplane- Free (already owned)
Succulent - $1.69 (walmart)
Toilet Paper Holder $12.00
Towel bar- $9.99
Extra's (plumbing pipes, etc. . . ) $50 (I am always amazed at how that adds up)
Light Fixture- Free it was there before.
Total Cost: A hair over $200
Because it wasn't a renovation that we would get to enjoy we did everything we could to re-use what we already have, while still trying to make it look nice.

ReplyDeleteAwesome job!!! your home should sell in no time! good luck :)
ReplyDeletelooks amazing! how long did this take?
ReplyDeleteGreat job! It looks amazing, very crisp and clean. Buyers will love it (but they'd be amazed at what it looked like just a short time ago!)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the positive feedback, I was very worried maybe it was too plain, but re-sale seems to demand that! Thanks again my mind is at ease :)
ReplyDeleteJacki- the cabinets came out on Sunday, painting commenced Monday, everything else went in Tuesday so THREE days. Lee does all our plumbing so we didn't have to wait for a plumber, then worked like energizer bunnies, on Saturday we Painted the guest bedroom, on Friday we painted the ceilings in the entire house. We are Tired, but hopefully it sells fast.
Your bathroom looks great! Very crisp looking. I love it in the white and the simplicity of it. You both did an amazing job in a short period of time, too. Your hard work really shows. You house is going to show beautifully! It'll get snatched up quickly.
ReplyDeleteLooks great!!! Nicely decorated without being completely barren/stark/clean for resale.
ReplyDeleteLove the look! :) I think white (when done correctly) can look spectacular, especially in bathrooms.
ReplyDeleteLove the simple but clean & crisp : - )
ReplyDeleteWow! It's great! I have an all white bathroom as well, but it's driving me nuts lol. I found your blog though BYW, and it' lovely =) Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteYou did a grand job. I love the simplicity and I adore that airplane!
ReplyDeleteBravo you guys, the powder room looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWhite, clean and crisp is a winner, especially when selling.
I adore the chrome airplane. Where did you purchase her Ashli? I wonder if I can find one similar in Oz??
Hope you get a buyer pronto.
xx
Thanks for all the well wishes, we're hoping for a speedy sale. Hopefully the new powder room will give buyers some extra incentive.

We bought our chrome plane from Homesense, they always seem to have some version on sale, I don't know if they have a homesense or homegoods in Oz, I did find some versions that I love, here are the links:

If you're not set on a chrome plane, check out Z Gallerie, they are hands down my favorite online store for accessories.
Hope that helps :)
Many thanks for the info Ashli, I will check out these sites.

It's an incredible transformation and I'm really impressed at home inexpensively it all came together.
ReplyDeleteBut I've gotta say, that towel bar just jumps out as being the only thing that doesn't feel right. You have such a keen eye for detail, yet that's way too modern to fit with the rest of the hardware. What happened?!!
(Please note that this trivial nit-pick is meant purely in jest!)
GREAT JOB! This is an adorable powder room. I love the airplane!
ReplyDeleteFound your blog via Blogging Your Way and wanted to stop by to say hi!
Rob- We are moving and it was one sale! haha
ReplyDeleteNo worries I promise in our next powder room the towel bar will match!! I liked your disclaimer at the bottom, made me giggle.
Lindsey I'm so glad you stopped by, I'm super excited about the course. ::)
Fantastic transformation. Love the simplicity {and the artwork is really cool as well as that plane} Great job! Hope you have a wonderful weekend. ~ Stephanie Lynn
