    Scents: Room by Room

I love the idea of each individual room in our home having it's own feeling. I want all the rooms to flow together but I also want them to have their own distinct feel. Part of my plan is for each room to have it's own scent. I haven't gotten around to assigning each room it's own scent yet, but some rooms are harder then others. For example I am having the hardest time with the bathroom. I think it might be impossible. The hand Soap is Almond Scented (Dr. Brommers castile soap), my shampoo is pomegranate, Body wash is Tea Tree, Shaving gel is Jasmine, I might just be fighting an un-winnable war with the bathroom, I'll keep you updated and let you know how it goes.
In the meantime I've assigned the Kitchen and Master Bedroom.
It's perfect that We just bought a meyer lemon tree because the kitchen scent is lemon. I just think that Lemon smells so clean, and fresh. Now I know that the smell is artificial and "real" Cleaning products don't have a smell, but I chose the most eco friendly products I could find and feel very safe using them in our home.

Palmolive ECO is our dishwasher detergent, it's phosphate free so it is better for our lakes and streams. And we use Mrs.Meyers for the rest of our kitchen cleaning team. I love the counter top spray, and the surface wipes. The hand soap and dish soap are also Mrs.Meyers and smell amazing.

The Master bedroom is Lavender Scented (no surprise there). We use Mrs.Meyers Lavender Laundry Detergent to wash the sheets (we make our own detergent but when it comes to our bed sheets we use the store bought stuff, I can deal with my clothes smelling like nothing, but not when it comes to my sheets, I love the light lavender scent the sheets give off when you hop into bed). And yes I know the smell is fake and yes I know it's probably not good for me,  but I buy a very natural brand and I only use it on my sheets. :)
We also have a little french Lavender plant on the dresser, and a little french lavender candle. The Candle is from target, follow link Here.

We also have a lavender plant on our juliet balcony, and on a warm summer night the wind blows in the faintest Lavender smell from outside our bedroom window (sounds idyllic, but once that warm summer breeze blew in the biggest spider, so it's not all, lavender and lemons around here haha) Seriously that spider was huge.  Sorry there's no picture of the lavender plant, If you've ever seen a juliet balcony you'll know there's no room to stand, let alone take pictures.
So there's our rooms scent by scent. I'll keep you updated on the bathroom scent although, I'm not holding my breath.

I love that idea, a scent for each room. However, our downstairs is fairly open so I think I'd need to stick to one, maybe two at most. I think lavender is always the tried and try for a bedroom. I think the bath can be tricky...so many products. I guess if you look at them that way however, just products and then pick another scent you truly love for room freshener and candles it would work pretty well. I'm sure there are some candles and such that would incorporate the almond as well.

Mrs. Meyers is one of my fave friends. I love that stuff. I esp. love the counter top spray. I love all the scents. I heard Wal-Mart is carrying the whole line and I know Target carries some.

I think for the bathroom I'll just pick the almond scent and find some candles to compliment it, and pretend the products are separate :) Great idea

I had no idea Walmart is carrying the line of Mrs.Meyers! I can't wait to check it out the next time I'm there. I've only ever found them at Target and I know they don't carry the full line :)
      Thanks for the Tip

I am just discovering Dr Bronners and am using the peppermint with added tea tree oil for cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms.
I'm showering with rose or lavender so this permeates from the ensuite into the bedroom. I find all these fragrances blend nicely together. Have also tried the lavender for washing bath towels and they smelt divine.
You girls in Canada and the USA are fortunate to have access to these products in many stores like Target etc. In Australia we have to find a health food store that stocks the better eco products (limited selections) and they are expensive!
Beautiful aromas in my home make me feel good!
      xx

Rose and lavender does sound like a lovely combination!
Canada doesn't have great access to these products either, it sounds like Australia is the same, we need to find a specialty store, but I'm lucky we live very close to the United States Boarder so once every couple months I hope down and pick up supplies!
I totally understand where your coming from I have some serious states envy too, they've got all the great stores :)

      Hey Ashli

Great post! Just by looking at your wonderful flower arrangements, I can tell your home must smell so nice:)
I love the smell of lemon, grapefruit or water melon. In fact, when we have fresh fruit, I like to leave it on the counter and enjoy the fresh natural fragrance.

      Again, great post.
      Keep in touch

Hi Ashli, I love anything lemon scented, so I'll be heading to Walmart soon. I tend to really like anything citrus scented. I bet your home has the scent of "welcome home"!

Vanilla is a good choice for "general" bathroom scenting. It plays well with the mix of bath and body products I like. I use it a lot especially in the winter months.

I have ocean breeze scented candles for summer as the bathroom decor is beachy sands and blues.
