It seems like as soon as I mix a bottle, grab the baby, grab the pillow and sit down on the couch . . . I will immediately need something, a pacifier, a burp cloth, the nail clippers (because the only time I can clip his nails is when he's asleep on me). I was tired of having to wake up a sleeping baby to grab any of these things. So I set up a "Baby Kit".
A Baby Kit just contains all the little bits and pieces that come with having a baby in the house.
- First, since I always change Hudson upstairs but there has been an "incident" or two that required an emergency diaper so I keep an extra diaper or two in the kit.
- WIPES, very very important to have easily within reach.
- Bibs!! He's a bit of a drool machine right now, so having a few bibs in reach is a must have. These bibs are from Ikea, and they are super cute and cozy.
- Nail Clippers.
- Sock, extra baby socks are always good to have on hand, because apparently baby feet repel baby socks.
- Dimpleskin Naturals Boo Boo Goo. Good for any little scratch or rash.
- Natural teething remedy, some Camilla Drops! I am not convinced they work but they definitely distract him from his gums for a minute or two.
- A Thermometer. Ours is the Kidz Med scanner. It good because I am a little paranoid about him over heating so this thermometer let's me check him with out waking him up! :)
- A dangly elephant that rattles.
- A wood rattle.
- And a pacimal! A pacifier attached to a stuffed animal. These are perfect for little babies that can't keep the pacifier in their mouth.
I keep the kit, in a 3 Sprouts bag, complete with a little mouse! I like these bags because they have pockets on the outside and they are lined on the inside so they are waterproof!
Those bibs are super cute! I would have thought they were from Giggle or someplace expensive, not Ikea!
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing when my kids were babies. It's nice to have something downstairs that you can use without having to wake them.
ReplyDeletei did the same thing! I had one for downstairs and one for upstairs. life savers! mine was the same way about the nails, now that he's older its an act of congress for him to let me cut them, lol!
ReplyDeleteThat bag is adorable. I kept a kit downstairs too when the girls were little. I used a plastic kitchen/bath caddy. Not quite as cute as that bag!
ReplyDeleteHi - I live in Ontario and I was wondering if you got the Seventh Generation product here in Canada or the States?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
You can get them here in Canada at most organic food markets. You can find a store that carries them on their website.

We buy then from both Canada and the states. They are way cheaper at Target in the states but they can be bought at Superstore up here as well.
DeleteHope that helps
Ashli
Thanks for the answers :)
DeleteThat's a really good idea!

ReplyDeleteI have one too! I also keep an extra blanket for my little one, my eReader, a phone charger, and snacks for me in there... I seem to always get hungry while feeding baby girl. I am loving these baby posts! I can't wait until you post on baby-proofing your home.
ReplyDeleteLove the bag you keep it all in! I wish I were that organized. I swear by clove oil for my teething. It calms down my screaming daughter with-in minutes and I can put her back to sleep. No more up all night screaming fits! It also works great on adult toothaches until you can get to the dentist. Do you follow the Mommypotamus blog or Holistic Squid? I follow them on Facebook to get my daily tips on holistic remedies and healthy recipes.
ReplyDeleteRejected socks and cold feet were a daily occurrence around here - until someone gave me some Robeez Booties to use. I started out with the 0-6 months ones and they didn't leave babies feet unless I wanted them to off! They're a dream! We ended up purchasing a 6-12 month pair and they fit big so you'll likely get more use out of them past 12 months. They go on sale at Robeez.com OR Robeez.ca (different sales on the two sites so check both) but Amazon.com is also a great place to find. The booties, not the shoes! The booties are furry inside and come up higher so they don't squish the little feet!
ReplyDeleteGreat Kit! Did you get the bibs at a Canadian IKEA? I can't find them on their website (ikea,ca)
ReplyDelete:)
Yes I did!! :)
DeleteAshli, it's so much fun to read about how your home and life has changed since you became a mother! Would you like to share how (and if) the way you dress has changed, as well? Do you have a momiform? How do you dress to be both comfortable enough to do your "mommy-life" but still look together enough to go out in public?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! And so obvious too! I remember forever needing something else just as I had sat down to feed. I'll definitely remember to do this if I have another. V@Sproutshouse xox
ReplyDeleteWe were plagued by the sock repelling baby feet until someone clued me in on the secret...stop buying baby socks. Go to the toddler/little kid section and buy the tiniest socks over there. They're made like real grown up socks with a defined heel and ankle. We never had an issue after we move away from the "baby" socks.
ReplyDeleteNot really kit worthy, but definitely baby worthy, you have to try the amber teething necklace! I swear by it, used one for my second baby, she's two now and we never take it off (she doesn't even touch it and I think has forgotten she even wears it). She got her first 2 teeth wearing it and not even a peep, teething for her has been a dream, didn't use one with our first and he was a rotten teether! We are waiting for her 2 yr molars to come in and I am hoping the necklace works its charm again.
ReplyDeleteawe lil Hudson is teething? We had an amber teething necklace for AJ. Then we added the Camilla drops and still use them! I think they really work :) Frozen washcloths to naw on help for a bit too. I am still so happy for you guys! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your informative baby posts Ashli! I am finally expecting after over 5 years of trying/failed treatments so I understood where you were coming from being a family of two before and am happy to "share" the joy of having a baby now! Perfect timing!!!
