We have some dear friends who are expecting twins some time in the near future. I was asked to make the cupcakes for their baby shower and jumped at the chance. I have a bit of a passion for cupcakes and while I enjoy making fancy cupcakes, I love a chance to make fun ones for kids . . . like our owl cupcakes from last year.
Since they are expecting twins, it's a Thing 1 and Thing 2 theme, and although it's not until the middle of March . . . I wanted to make sure I had a good plan for the cupcakes.
Here's what resulted from my tester batch:
We used a grass tip, it makes great "grass" (obviously) but it also makes great "fur".
I'm thinking for the final touch I'll add some blue cotton candy to the tops of the cupcakes but this was a good test run.

ReplyDeleteAh, a comment from someone from another planet, obviously. :)
DeleteVery adorable.
ReplyDeleteI think I need to find this grass tip. The effect is amazing! These cupcakes look like some pieces of art :)

ReplyDeleteLove it! Stinkin cute:)
ReplyDeleteI love them the way they are. Not sure the cotton candy would help the 'hair' effect. Good job!
ReplyDeleteDo you have any great frosting recipe to share? And I also wonder; the graphic prints you have around your home (the one with the love birds and the type writer), you used to have a sponsor link to the etsy shop that holds them but now, when I need it, it's not there anymore, do you remember the shops name and do you know if it's still there?
ReplyDeleteSuper cute and love the theme!
ReplyDeleteThose are so adorable! They look great and such a fun theme.
ReplyDeleteWow I totally forgot about thing 1 and 2. What an awesome idea!!! I would be excited about this project too. Hmmm have you ever thought about being a baker? Cake decorator?
ReplyDeleteLove them ! Excellent idea !
ReplyDeleteI wish I had one now! so cute...and yes I am going to also get one of the tips. You always have such cute ideas.
ReplyDeleteThey look like great fun. Would be interested in your recipe and method for the cupcakes and the icing. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane , Australia
ReplyDeleteLove your blog - can you post an icing recipe
ReplyDeleteButter cream is a nice icing to work with and it keeps shape nice. If you refrigerate take out 1-2hrs prior to serving to let it soften up.
DeleteI also like to add a tablespoon or two of cream cheese. I find it really "pulls" the icing together and gives a nice smooth texture.
Those look GREAT!!! Wish there was a "sample" button :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your girlfriend
Hi - I can never get my blue icing to come out blue - it always green. I assume it is because the butter has a yellow tinge. Any tips for getting it blue?

Those are super cute!!
ReplyDeleteI love the theme and I love the cupcakes but how are you going to tie the two together? There are such adorable showers now days but this seems kind of plain and lacking imagination. Is there something more cooking for this shower?
ReplyDeleteSorry :-((
so cute!! we did a dr. suess theme baby shower for my sister and i made similar cupcakes :) i found them the idea on pinterest and made red velvet cake for them so it was red ;) also if you do use cotton candy (i did) put in on as last minute as you can...it melts!!! i put it on ~ 20 minutes before and it still melted (although it was june and super hot in kansas city) but just thought that might help! hope you have fun :)
ReplyDeleteThose are too cute!
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome! Great job :)
ReplyDeleteYour blog is my favorite, Ashli & I'm a first time poster. I did cotton candy on top for my son's birthday. I also strongly suggest putting it on at the last minute. It was a huge hit, so well worth the effort.
