    Kitchen Organization

I feel like now that we've been here for over a year I can finally get around to all of the little area's of our home that need organization!
We've tackled some smaller area's so far, like the pot cupboard, the white dish cupboard, and the pantry, now it's time to organize my spice rack and our kitchen knives.
I Love the in drawer spice rack (ours is from Superstore but you can find them on Amazon and at the Container Store). We also have a spice cupboard (or will once I get that organized) but the small bottles are the ones that I use regularly.

    Artsy shot:

The labels are from where else . . . Staples and are made by who else . . . Martha. I love the little Craft Labels! We used our inkjet printer to add the names of the spices, it was super easy and much nicer than my chicken scratch handwriting!

The knife organizer was a Homesense find from 3 years ago (you can see it in our old house here), easily the best $20 I ever spent.

Apparently (meaning I read this somewhere but can't remember where) you are WAY more likely to cut yourself with a dull knife than a sharp one and keeping all of the knives secure and upright keeps them from banging around in the drawer and getting dull.

Yes, you are more likely to cut yourself with a dull knife. :) I have two really good knives. One is in a butcher block thing on the counter. I took the cheap knives that the good ones fit in their slots and tossed them. I found my drawer organizers at IKEA. I love IKEA!!! :) http://momma-paparazzi.blogspot.com/2009/04/alittle-ocd-well-alittle-maybe.html

I think spice drawers make so much more sense than a spice cabinet. When we tore down our upper cabinets, I started putting spices in a drawer and it is so much easier! I've been looking for a knife block like yours so we can get rid of the ugly counter knife block. Love your organization!

We have all of our spices in a drawer as well. I keep them near where I prep our meals so it is super handy. We recently purchased a new knife block for our knives, since I decided to use our old knife drawer for the spices. It is soooo cool...it is magnetic, so the knives just stick to the sides. Everything is right at hand and I can see which one I need super fast. still waiting to get to Staples!!

Very tidy! I keep a cabinet with hermetic jars but they're not tall enough to leave space unwasted... Perhaps it is time to make the drawer switch!

great organization! I wish I had more drawer real estate in our kitchen...old cupboards=lack of efficient space use! Oh well...one day :) I think spice drawers are where it is at! Looks great Ash!

The one item in my kitchen that I could not live without is my drying mat. I used to use a kitchen towel to set my washed and rinsed dishes and I really resisted getting a drying mat until a good friend told me how much she liked hers. I am now a fan. It looks nice and is not bulky. It really absorbs the water and I just hang it up at night and it is dry for the morning dishes.

Cutco's vegetable peeler rocks! I went through so many vegetable peelers before I found Cutco. They are pricey but well worth it. I could easily have bought one a long time ago with all of the money I had spend on ones that were ready to be tossed after a short time. I love Cutco products.

I find it difficult to find spices in a cabinet- a solution to those without a drawer to utilize for spices, use a basket inside a cabinet or on a shelf. I found 2 baskets from the goodwill for my spices & baking stuff. The baskets have perfectly straight sides and I found some small square jars at the dollar store that fit inside perfectly (10 jars per basket). I painted the baskets white and labelled the tops- just slide the basket out and all spices are available at a glance.

My favorite tool in my kitchen is my Kitchen Aid Mixer...but a close second is my chef's knife (it's Cutco BTW--about 25 years old). We hadn't been married long and couldn't afford the whole set, so I bought it and the paring knife and they're both still in service! :)

You have great drawers.... in the kitchen of-course. My favourite kitchen item is my Paderno whistling kettle. I have had it for years now. Bought it because it is made in Canada. I can hear it anywhere in the house and my tea is HOT!

My favorite kitchen tool would have to be my boyfriend; he's a great cook :) He also used to sell Cutco knives! The chef knife we have from his set from his Cutco days still works great--but we don't have those other pieces so it'd be awesome to add a few more!!!! We LOVE Cutco!

My favorite kitchen tool is probably my stick hand blender. I use it a lot, so much easier than pulling out the big blender or food processor. would love to have a great organized knife drawer like you! My kitchen only has 4 drawers total so I just don't have the room for spices, knife organizer etc,
