I'm trying to decide on Master Bathroom Paint! I am super tired of the "doo doo" brown.
Here's the Deal:
- We have light grey tiles (with a small purplish grey undertone).
- There are creamy grey tiles in the shower.
- The floor is dark.
- The cabinetry is Dark (like the rest of the cabinetry in our house).
The first color is: Sharkey Grey (this picture doesn't really do it justice it's a touch darker than seen here, sort of a medium light grey).
The second is: Bedford Grey
The third is: Westinghouse grey- almost White, but with a very light grey undertone!
So please let me know what one's your favorite . . . because I picked grey and that as far as I got . . . wouldn't life be easier if grey was grey and that was it !!!
Thank you in advance!
2 goes really well with the tile.. but I vote 3 because, in my experience, a light color that isn't white can just look a bit dirty in a small and usually dark room like a bathroom. That's what I found anyway, and I ended up repainting, grrr.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually thinking I like #1. Not too dark, not too light.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking #1 too...and for the same reason. It's not too dark but not too light. :)
ReplyDeletelove #2. #1 is okay. I think you'll be very disappointed in #3. Too blah
ReplyDeleteI vote for #1. 2 is too dark and 3 is too light.
ReplyDelete#1 or #2. I am currently living in an apartment but they allowed me to paint, yay! In my bathroom which is super tiny, I opted for the lightest grey on the card, but it was a grey, not white. I painted the walls and ceiling the same color so that there was no break to make it appear even smaller. I can't believe how much I love it. I don't know how spacious your bathroom is, but if you want it to appear even more spacious you could do that with either of the lighter colors. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic tip! My house is pretty teeny, so any tips about making it feel bigger are so handy :-) thank you!
DeleteI like #2...not too dark, not to light!
ReplyDeleteI like #1 - it's not too light or dark.
ReplyDelete#2 I love the gray! I am thinking would that work in my bathroom!
ReplyDeleteI say #1 or #2.... happy painting!
ReplyDeleteI am thinking either #1 or #2 as well. Can't wait to see what you decide!
ReplyDelete1 or 2 look good, but not 3 because it looks off for some reason.

ReplyDeleteNumber 1 for sure! Number 3 is too bright and number 2 will make the space look smaller, in my opinion.
ReplyDelete#2 then #1. 3 seems too white.
ReplyDeleteI think #1 is the best pick. I agree with one of the comments above: #3 may just seem like a dingy white. And #2 is pretty, but it seems to be too close of a match to your tile. I think a slight contrast would be more interesting. Good luck!
ReplyDelete#2 then #1
ReplyDeleteI like 3. I lean toward brighter spaces.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to tell from a photo! Number 3 is definitely too bright though. Personally, I would choose a grey that is identical to the tiles to keep the room very soothing and then your accent tiles would really pop.
ReplyDeleteI like 3. I lean toward brighter spaces.
ReplyDeleteI like #2 the best as it seems to pick up the darker tones in the tile. The last one seems too light so if you aren't sold on 2 then go with #1.
ReplyDeleteI like #2, #3 looks too white and #1 seems almost peachy from my end. Good luck, can't wait to see what it all looks like in the end.
ReplyDeleteI like number one. It's not as stark as number three which would have been my other choice. I think the second one will create a slightly duller look once it's over all the walls. I think number one is cheery but not too overpowering (just like you) :)

I like #2
ReplyDeleteSo hard to tell, but I'm thinking #1. The second one looks too gray and the third one is too white, so
ReplyDeleteI've read (and painted) that a colour with peachy undertones is the most flattering because it is makes your skin tone look better. In a bathroom (with oodles of mirrors) I can use all the help I can get to look my best (even if it's just me who sees me). ...Sarah
ReplyDelete#1!
ReplyDeleteHmmm - someone is a Martha fan :).
ReplyDeleteMy eye immediately went to #2. I like #1 as well, but definitely prefer #2. Don't like #3 at all.
I'm with the other posters -- either 1 or 2. I think that you'll bored quickly with #3. Can't wait to see the painted results!
ReplyDeleteI vote #1 !
ReplyDelete22222222222222222222222222222222222222222222!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for 2.
ReplyDeleteI vote number 1...my first thought was #2...but I think the first one goes with the tile better! Good Luck!
ReplyDeletei like 2 , because that's what i have in my bathroom. it's awesome
ReplyDeleteI like Bedford Grey the best.
ReplyDeleteEven though I am totally in love with Bedford Grey...I am going with #1. I feel that Bedford Grey is a little too grey against your wall tiles. #3 is a little too white. #1 is just right for the space! Can't wait to see what you decide!
ReplyDeleteI like #2 ( Oops -that sort of sounds wrong) The darkest colour. I see what you mean about the wall colour right now- builders sometimes pick the strangest shades.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I think 2. It looks good with the tile and is a similar tone... so it will make a cohesive backdrop for whatever accessories you use.
ReplyDeleteI like number 3
ReplyDeleteI used Bedford Gray in my kitchen and love it. I have gray concrete counters, dark gray floor and white walls. The cabinets are painted the Bedford Gray. Go with it you will love it.

I vote # 1 also, either way you always have a way of making things look great!! Happy painting!
ReplyDeleteI vote #2, although not literally. I like the darker grey with the tile. It seems the perfect place to add colorful accents, like purple orchids!
ReplyDeletei think #1 goes really well with your tile
ReplyDeleteNumber two, definitely, with number one as a distant runner up. Love your tile, btw!
ReplyDeleteI like #3 and #1 would be my 2nd choice.
ReplyDeleteI think #1 looks the best next to your tile.
ReplyDeleteBefore I even knew what you were asking, I immediately liked #2. #1 is pretty close, but 2 makes it look a little richer in there. Can't wait to see what you decide!
ReplyDeleteLove number 2. That sounds gross. Inspiration for a recently remodeled grayish bath can be found at 320 Sycamore blog. I just sent my friend the link and as your tile reminds me of their sink a bit:

I like #1 and #2...but prefer #2.
ReplyDeleteLisa
I think #1 it would give it a nice contrast
ReplyDelete#2!!
ReplyDeleteI've seen Sharkey Grey in a couple different settings and love it! # 1!!!
ReplyDelete#1, I was going back and forth between one and two (3 is out!)...I decided to use my old trick...close my eyes and then open...the first to catch my attention and is pleasing to the eye usually wins...so #1 it is!!
ReplyDeleteI vote three, but it might just be the photo. It looks cleaner!
ReplyDeleteMy first choice is for #1. It adds some color to the space but doesn't blend in with the tile as much as #2 appears to. I like #3 as a second choice because of the bright contrast to the tile and it looks like it will match with the white sink and maybe other fixtures in the room. But then you'd need to have some other decor that will bring pops of color since the paint would be pretty white. I hope all our comments aren't just confusing you more. :)
ReplyDeleteWe chose an off white color for our bathroom called 'Cottonball'. With the white trim we have, it's really nice, and might go well with the grey with purple tiles.
ReplyDeleteI love the #2 color (but I love the name of #1 - oh Martha!) :-)
ReplyDelete#2, because I'm thinking of painting my LR and Kitchen that color, and I'd rather see your paint job first :)
ReplyDeleteI love the Bedford Grey (and it's now on the list for my own bathroom colour) but I think with your tiles, like other commenters have suggested, the #1 will work better.
ReplyDelete#1 would be my choice. #2 is too dark and #3 is too white... so that must make #1 just right!!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving #2, there's my vote!
ReplyDelete#2, no pun intended - I know you're trying to escape doo doo, lol.
ReplyDeleteI think #2 is the best choice. It really isn't a dark color at all. It will just be rich and soothing. My second choice would be #1. But #3 is just too white...
ReplyDeleteMy first choice would be #1, then #3, then #. I love that #1 is not too dark and not too light. I think #2 just blends into the tile color (I know it's kinda hard to tell from a picture).
ReplyDelete1 is my favorite....
ReplyDeleteLove the tiles and I vote for #1!
ReplyDeleteI love #1.
ReplyDelete#2
ReplyDeleteLOVE #1!!
ReplyDelete#1 I think works best with your tiles. Love the grey! :)
ReplyDeleteI think #1 compliments the tile the best. I think #3 looks way to white next to your tile.
ReplyDeletenumber 1 for me !
ReplyDeletego for #1
ReplyDelete2 is very close to the tile color, so that would be nice if you'd like it all to blend in. I also really like 1 if you'd like a bit more of a contrast. Either of those will look beautiful though! :)
ReplyDelete#3. I like the contrast.
ReplyDelete#2!!!
ReplyDeleteI just love the Bedford Grey. This must be Martha Stewart paint...... :-)
ReplyDelete#3 is bright. I like it the best
ReplyDeleteI vote #1
ReplyDeleteI think it highlights the tiles beautifully
I like #1. It seems to work well with the tile. Not too dark. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI like #1 because it is not too dark or not too light!
ReplyDeletei vote for #1 as well :)
ReplyDelete#1... #2 is beautiful too, but there is nothing like a bright clean colour. #1 is perfect.
ReplyDeleteBased on the photo, #2. But based on what I remember about #1, I would choose it. I have seen it in person and love it! Also, it seems to go great with anything! If you have it narrowed down to 3 paint colors, you can't go wrong! I can't wait to see what you pick!
ReplyDeleteI vote for #2...it just 'looks' better with the tile, to me...lol...and I like that it isn't such a blinding light color as #1, although you did mention that #1 is darker than it looks.
ReplyDeleteAll that to say I vote for #2.
I just painted my son's room sharkey gray (#1) and have tested bedford a few times (in my bathroom and in his room). Bedford gray has more blue in it and sharkey gray is more taupe than gray IMO. i think it depends on what you want...bedford looks pretty in this online picture and i think i would prefer it in my bathroom than the sharkey gray.
ReplyDeleteto confuse you more, i just painted my bedroom agreeable gray by sherwin williams. if you go to Holly Mathis's blog, you can see my bedroom that she recently posted. (I chose silver sage by restoration hardware for my master bathroom).
Good luck, I spend quite a bit on paint samples!
My vote is for Bedford Grey, and I'll tell you why. I have a 50's bath with a grey-green tile on floor and walls. There really wasn't much space to paint, and I actually tried several colors; light, dark, contrasting, etc. nothing seemed to work. So I found a shade just slightly lighter than the tile, and painted walls and ceiling. Suddenly the room looked amazing, which is shocking considering how old the bathroom is. Sometimes just blending the colors creates a smooth visual line that a lighter color won't do.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to tell the truth look of the colours online.... with that said I think that I would pick number 3 Westinghouse grey if the natural light in the bathroom isn't so great and you want that look and it isn't to cool of a colour. If you want a warmer look than I would pick Bedford grey as it comes across with more depth. Hope that helps.
ReplyDelete#2 - I just used Bedford Grey in my basement and LOVE it. Dark enough to be dramatic, but not too dark. Sharkey grey is ok, too, but Bedford is my one true love. Don't know about #3, so hard to tell from pics.
ReplyDelete#2!
ReplyDelete#1 !
ReplyDelete#2---love the color, the other two look washed out to me.
ReplyDeleteI love #2, very serene. Spa like!
ReplyDeleteI like #2, the Bedford Grey, I have something very similar in my own bathroom.
ReplyDeleteAshli - go to HiSugarplum's blog and check out her kids/guest bath. She has the same undertones that you do with dark cabinetry - her solution was genius
ReplyDeleteI painted a guest bedroom Sharkey Grey and I LOVE IT. It is one of my favorite colors in the house. It is a great grey. :)
ReplyDelete#1 Sharkey Grey for sure! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteNo 1 for sure - I think No 2 is too dark and No 3 is too bright .... Happy painting xx
ReplyDeleteSue xx
I like No. 2. I think it will play really nice with the gray already in the room and its a really neutral color so you could always change out acessories to add color. Can't wait to see what you choose! Happy painting :)
ReplyDelete#2 get my thumbs up!
ReplyDelete#3 - only because I like bathrooms to look clean & bright, & it'll brighten up the dark floors & cabinets.
ReplyDelete-Sara
#1! Sharkey grey is one of the most peaceful, lovely colours. Definitely one of my all time favorites! Classic loveliness. :)
ReplyDeleteI like 3. It makes the tile pop.
ReplyDeleteI like number one. but it's hard to choose with out seeing the tiles you were talking about. right away i was thinking contrast for the purple tones you said. two's too dark and number 3 is too white. i feel like number one is warmer. but it all depends on how they look next to the tiles......
ReplyDeleteI like number 2, looks great!
ReplyDeleteWith the dark cabinetry... definitely the #3
ReplyDelete#2 =)
ReplyDeleteDepends on what you want. Higher contrast between the tile and the wall and other things, so that your lovely tile and other accents stand out better? More of a monotone theme that has little shade variety?
ReplyDeleteI can't see the rest of the room, but 1 seems like a lovely medium. There's a little bit of contrast between the tile, but not too much, and it's not too bright or too dark. It definitely makes a good write off for an easier decision, because it isn't really one thing or the other, in a sense.
However, if you're looking for contrast, then 3 definitely adds more of a dynamic appeal, in comparison to the tile. It also, being the lightest color, would obviously help make things seem roomier and more open/brighter, in general.
Then, lastly (and I say this without knowing the other colors in the room) 2 would definitely seem less stark and, in a sense, more comfortable, with little contrast to the tile and not such an over bright shade. It's also not too dark and it's fairly subtle, being a medium gray, so it probably wouldn't make it seem much less spacious.
Go lighter and brighter. #2 looks too monotone with the tiles.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think you will end up with too much gray with any of them. I can't see the purplish tones in the tile that you are talking about but I would draw on those with something like Native lilac by valspar or some shade that would accent those purple undertones, make the room "pop", yet keep things light and bright. If I had to choose one of the grays, I would choose #2 and then accent with some bright stuff to make it "pop".
ReplyDeleteMy vote is #2
ReplyDeletewhat did you wind up picking? sharkey grey is my new absolute favourite colour, so I vote #1 (and i agree that the photo doesn't do it justice). it is such a fresh, clean, energizing colour - perfect for a bathroom! i'm a little afraid of how much i love this colour, i might wind up with a whole house full of it. and that's a good thing :)
ReplyDeleteI have a whole house full of sharkey!! It's a small house. Makes it feel bigger :)
