Deck the halls with "Super Cheap Garland from Walmart" fa la la la la la . . . la la la la.
When we first saw this house all I saw was, a spot for a giant Christmas tree and staircase railings begging for garland.
I didn't have a very large budget for garland, I wanted to keep it around $20, so it was either buy one 7 foot section from Michaels, or outfit all of our railings from Walmart. For $2.50 you can buy a 9 foot long very scraggly string of garland. My solution was to take 2 strings of $2.50 garland and twist them together, which made for fuller string of garland for the low low price of $5 :)
It cost us $20 plus tax for all the garland on the staircase.
I used red ribbon and tied it in big bows to hold the garland to the railing, I really loved the look.
Garland and staircases were made for each other!
p.s. I also added a wreath to the window, with a matching red bow!

ReplyDeleteThe staircase looks beautiful! And you got an awesome deal on the garland.
ReplyDeleteI looks wonderful. You have the perfect staircase to decorate. Nothing says Christmas more than classic greenery and red ribbon.
ReplyDeleteI thought I was the only person who looks at a house and immediately picks out where the Christmas tree would go. LOL
simple,lovely.
ReplyDeleteYes garland and railings were made for each other. I need to do mine yet. I have a staircase similar to yours. I love the ribbon idea. I use those Command strips and hook my garland in there. It is also pre lit. Then I hook this ornament spray with greenery at those points to hide the hooks.
ReplyDeleteFab look at a fab price! Sure wish I had a staircase like that to decorate. Yours looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThat is so beautiful! I need to do our staircase too!

Congrats! - Your old mud room post is on Apartment Therapy-Just thought you'd want to know.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I think that paint color looks really nice with red. Speaking of paint, I went to HD yesterday to buy a gallon of Martha's Talc and they told me they aren't carrying the paint line anymore. I bought 7 gallons because it's on sale for $20, but I wanted you to know. Bummer, huh?

Looks great! We have garland throughout our living room on our "ledge things" hard to explain but I love it! We also have some on our front porch columns with lights in it and I find my self peeking out our big bay window to see it all day haha. It's the little things. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing pictures. I love the holiday season. While $2.50 is not a lot I wonder if maybe people without much money at all the season could maybe just make their own. But it would probably be easier and cheaper just to buy the pre made stuff.
