WE WANT YOU! Now imagine a big poster of Uncle Sam pointing at you :)
I need your opinion, Lee has no opinion on this matter and I need help! I've had this star burst mirror forever, and I though I might try it over the guest room bed??
What do you think? A little plain maybe? I though I might add a banner back there too. And the Headboard and the nightstands are going to be a bright color so maybe that would add a little more interest? What do you think? Let me know . . . Don't be shy. But Keep in mind I have thin skin so nothing too mean, or maybe the sandwich technique, something nice, followed by something not as nice, ending with something nice :) haha Like A Sandwich!
Thank you in advance!

I love it!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Nice sparkle!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks beautiful! In fact, I'm jealous that I don't have a mirror just like it. I agree with Liz--it adds a little sparkle to the room, and every room needs a little sparkle.
ReplyDeleteYep adds a nice little pop to the wall, what color are you painting the headboard and night stands?
ReplyDeleteThe mirror is perfect. I adore white and think the whole room looks fabulous just the way it is.

I think it looks gorgeous as is - and once you've painted the headboard & nightstands it will be spectacular! Personally i think if you added anything else it would start to look a bit too busy. x Vicky Sweet
ReplyDeleteI love the mirror! I think it looks perfect and simple. Paint the headboard and nightstands and see how that looks. It might add just the interest you're looking for. My only other suggestion would be a long lumbar pillow with some texture or pattern on the bed.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks beautiful. If you want to add a pop of colour in, why not add a throw on the end of the bed in a similar tone to that on the curtain as well as a couple of throw pillows in same shade?
ReplyDeleteI think it looks fabulous above the bed!!
ReplyDeleteI like it, it looks classy. If you are going with a bright colour on the nightstands though how about painting a wide stripe (the width of the mirror) horizontally or vertically or maybe just a single square of that colour on the wall over the bed. Stencil a pattern over it in your lighter colour then to tone it back down a bit. And then put the mirror over it. It will definately add fun and interest :)
ReplyDeleteHow about adding color to the nightstands (something bright) and stenciling that same color on the headboard in a fun funky pattern!
ReplyDeleteI like it just like that. Simple yet it adds a little something to the space. Can't put my finger on it. I also agree with Catherine that a a touch of color to the nightstands wouldn't be so bad either. Since everything else is subtle and neutral I would go with a punch of color sort of like with the curtains. Its looking nice so far;)
ReplyDeleteI like it as it is!
ReplyDeleteLove the mirror, but might be a little plain as is. If you punch up the room with some more color on the nightstands and do a banner behind like you suggested, I think the mirror would totally work. Go for it, girl!
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous as is! It's pretty but not too busy.
ReplyDeleteI love the mirror over the bed. I think that it would look great with the headboard and the night stands painted a bold color. I would suggest putting a little bit of color on the bed with a throw pillow or lumbar pillow and I think the mirror would stand out.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find that beautiful mirror? The only ones I seem to come across are too ornate.
LOVE you blog!
I love it in that room. I'm thinking that the headboard with color would really make it look even better but even if you don't add color to the headboard it looks classy. =D
ReplyDeleteI love a starburst mirror behind the bed. I'm going to go against the general consensus tho and say that I think you should leave the headboard white. When you paint the nightstands, if you still think it all looks a little bland... paint the mirror!
ReplyDeleteI love it, I'm actually looking for one for our room
ReplyDeleteI like the mirror there :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks good. I think what might be bothering you is the scale. Find some sort of vertical art to place on either side, above the lamps. I think it will fill out the space better, and you will feel better.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think it looks wonderful and adds to the purity of the room with a little sparkle. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe mirror looks really nice! The room as it is now looks very calm and soothing. I think it looks fabulous just as it is now :)
ReplyDeleteI love it! I think a punch of color would be great! Maybe a fun pillow on the bed?? Excited to see how it turn outs.
ReplyDeleteI'm stepping out on a limb here, Ashli, but I'm not sure it goes with what you originally posted in your earlier mood board for the room. At least as shown here.
ReplyDeleteYour plan was so colourful and whimsical, with the banners and the homey quilt and all the pops of wild colour. I feel the only way the starburst mirror works is to spray it out with one of your wild colours and add the banners.
On the other hand, I'll probably love whatever you do!
I think your mirror is perfect above your bed!
ReplyDeleteYour guest room looks very calm and relaxing, almost like a hotel room. The mirror above the bed is perfect for the space, it brings some of the sparkle from the lamps up onto the wall. I really don't think you need to add anything else to the wall.
ReplyDeleteSome mentioned pillows and throws to bring in color, that would be a great way to bring in that pop, but still keep that elegant, relaxing feeling!
Great job!!!
It's all a bit white but so is a canvas before the masters painted their masterpieces. How about a width of colorful fabric running behind the mirror, anchored with a dowel or curtain rod at the top?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it there..with the lamps ~ looks great.
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest some colorful pillows, but since you are going to paint the headboard and night stands a bright color.... yea ~ I can't wait to see it.
I like it! Mirrors bounce light around the room & make it feel bigger. I put one over our fireplace mantle.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the "paint the nightstands" camp. Everything else seems just perfect.
ReplyDeleteI like it. I'd maybe pull the color of the mirror into decorative pillows on the bed, or the lampshades.
ReplyDelete:)
ButterYum
I should have said "mirror frame".
ReplyDeleteIt looks restful to me. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteI do like it! But it is a little plain like you said. I really LOVE the idea suggested about about the stripe running down the wall to accentuate it, but I'd first see how it looks after painting the bed and nightstands. No matter what you do though, I'm sure it'll come out great. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I hope that was a good sandwich! ;)
I think a banner would look cute (and fitting since this is also a crafty room), but I think the mirror looks classy. I definitely wouldn't do both together. It would be a confused look, especially since the rest of your home is so easy on the eyes. I sense you are craving a diy project, since you're considering a banner. So, maybe you could do something fun with the lampshades instead. I would also make some modifications to the bedding to add just a bit of color. It looks good now, but have some fun with it and it'll look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm not able to comment while logged into my google account. {L} Lisa
No banner yet - wait until the headboard, etc is painted and then see what you'd like. Personally I like it as is, imagining it with a bright bed frame - but I'm a clean and simple type of girl.
ReplyDeleteSpray paint it white??? or a pop of colour?
ReplyDeleteI really like it.Think it looks great there! Nice, clean, simple. A winner!
ReplyDeleteI like it the way it is. I like the white nightstands and bed too. I would just pop some more color in the accessories on the nightstands. Love your blog. Thanks for opening your home to us. I am getting a lot of inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI think you should paint the mirror black. And then distress it a little so it looks old and vintage. It would also help anchor the room with all the neutrals and make the polka dots and quilt pop. I really dig your style and your funny blog.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the mirror above the bed! It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHa! Love how they come out of the woodwork when you ask for their opinion!! LOL I love the mirror too. I know you talked about painting the headboard and nightstands bright yellow. Once you do that, you could decide if you want to change the color of the mirror too. But, right now I love the sparkle! And, I am all for adding a band of color on that wall. Maybe the same height as the stripe on the drapes?
ReplyDeleteReally like the mirror and I like the furniture white. You and Yvonne at Stonegable need to email each other. She has a curtain situation she is asking opinions on.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks lovely! Are those nightstands from IKEA? I like them.
ReplyDeleteI like it. Personally, I think you could move some more pink accents in to tie in that band in the curtains, but it's nice the way it is.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I've only recently subscribed to your blog and find it very informative.
ReplyDeleteI love the mirror, but I would wait until all the pieces are in place. Definitely think you need to bring the color in the drapes to the bed somehow (which I'm sure you have already thought of).
ReplyDeleteHmm, what if you painted a wide band on the wall to meet up with the wide band on the drapes? Like it continues....in that case i'm not sure the mirror would work.
As Tony the Tiger would say, "it looks grrrrrreat!" Seriously though... I'm a fan.
ReplyDeletePerfect just like it is. Don't change anything. Feels like a serene B&B or spa hotel.
ReplyDeleteI like the starburst mirror - adds a bit of sparkle to the room! I can't wait to see the rest of the colors you're planning on adding to the room.
ReplyDeleteI do think the mirror wall would look fabulous with a tone-on-tone horizontal stripes w/either slight contrast colors or matte & gloss paint in the same color.
I always love your design ideas, so I know whatever the final look is will be beautiful.
It is so pretty! I wish I had that mirror! I really do not see a banner looking good....? but maybe a few colorful pillows. I even like the idea of painting the nightstands. You are doing a great job! Gina
ReplyDeleteI think it's PERFECT :O)
ReplyDeleteWOW!! Thank you so much for all the input, who needs a husband to bounce idea's off of when you have a blog! yeah!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many good idea's here . . . LOVING THEM! I want to start on the quilt first, so I can pull a color out of that for the headboard and nightstands . . . but right now I'm thinking Yellow :0
The Nightstands and bedframe came from Ikea! They were really well priced $50 for the nightstands and they have a cute little cubby and door! LOVE'EM
And the starburst Mirror is from Pier 1 for Less than $100 :)
I hope that was all the questions!
Thank you again for all the input! It was super helpful!!
Lots of Love
Ashli
I love the mirror! And the crispness of the room. Personally, I would probaly add some throw pillows for a punch of color, but I think it look fab!!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great and once you paint the headboard a color it will pop even more! You always do an amazing job. I can't wait to see the finished room.
ReplyDeleteI like it. I don't think it's plain. And it's actually large enough that it looks fine on it's own. Grade: A.
ReplyDeleteYou have wonderful taste. Clearly your following here is enchanted, including me.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I've experimented with is painting color behind a print or mirror. In this case you could replicate the pink in the drapes. Paint a circle about 2-3 inches wider than the mirror portion so that it is set off by the sunburst. Add toss pillows in similar hues and leave everything else white. All white is very restful, but pops of color give it some life.
One way to experiment is to cut circles out of colored paper, gift wrap, etc. to see if you like it. If you hate, no harm, no foul.
Love your site. I pinned it.
I like it! I think adding a pop of color either on the bed or the nightstands (maybe both?) will definitely help though! :)
ReplyDeleteI love it, but a little voice in my ear is saying: "Paint it aqua!"
ReplyDeleteLove the mirror- and I think I like the furniture & headboard as-is...Would you consider making it an accent wall- maybe stenciled with something from http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/ ?
ReplyDeleteI love the mirror there! I would agree with others though when they say that you should bring color to the bed. Maybe a bed runner thing?
ReplyDeleteI like it as well, I think it fits the space well. Wait until you paint the headboard/side tables. I can't remember if you said you were adding color to the bed with pillows? If so I think I'd do a pattern with the red from the curtains and the yellow from the headboard to tie it all together. I think it will look great, just like the other rooms in your house. P.S. super jealous of your wrapping area.
ReplyDeleteIt's a gorgeous mirror. You have the BEST taste and I love that you can make Ikea furniture look so good.
ReplyDeleteI love that mirror above the bed! Super cute, and I cant wait to see what color your painting the headboard and nightstand. :) It looks great.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I am not a fan of sunburst mirrors, USUALLY, but I do like this one. I think it looks good. I think you should cover your lampshades with the red fabric used in your curtains and trim the shades with white gimp or some pretty white trim. There is a tutorial on the Dream Book Design blog that shows how to cover a lampshade. Not that I think covering a lampshade would be hard (have never covered one myself) but it is always good to get some tips.
ReplyDeleteI like it and like you said, adding a punch of color...maybe like in your curtains would be great. go with your gut...you obviously make great choices.

I never tried the sandwich communication technique.. I am going to try it on the hubs, will let you know the outcome. In regards to the room, it looks lovely btw, how about you keep all furniture white, and put some emphasis on that eye candy of a mirror you have there. Maybe subtle wallpaper or wall stencils on the back wall and perhaps some more texture on the bed i.e throw, colorful pillowcases etc. Whatever you do, I am sure like most of your readers, I will love it. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteAshli! I can't wait to see this room finished! I am also excited about the cleaning products post. I've been making my own laundry detergent for a long time but I do the liquid stuff and its so clumpy it doesn't always work well in my front loader like it did my top loader. I saw you used the powder, but when I make the powder kind it seems like all the different particles settle into layers in my container and then I worry I'm not getting the right ratio when I scoop it out! Ahhh! Does yours do this too?
ReplyDeleteThe scale of the mirror is perfect. The mirror itself is very current. The look is in all of the designer rooms. Especially with bright colors. I think that you should go for it.
ReplyDeletewhy not big bold stripes in a dark color to make that mirror pop.. like a chic new york feel?
ReplyDeleteThe mirror is fine. The block of color in the drapes are distracting though and don't make much sense. Other than that the room looks fine!
ReplyDeleteEverything you post is awesome. Speaking as a mom, I know yours must be so proud!:)
ReplyDeleteThat has to be one of the sweetest comments I've ever received!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU :) You've made my week!
~Ashli
I'm not a fan of these starburst mirrors. They are on a lot of decorating sites. But I have to say, I really really like this! Maybe all of the white and the silver together? I don't know, but I say it works. And I NEVER think that about the starburst! haha
ReplyDeleteI dont know why I am jumping in to comment or advise on decorating, when clearly you have done a much better job than me. But I have to and that is to say, I just love your star burst mirror, it is so clean and errr.. if you are planning on listening to me.. then I would suggest you keep the white, gives you a palette to change everytime, instead of staring at yellow night stands for any part of your life. AND I would inject color in the quilt/bedspread and pillows and curtains. Keep the white it looks clean and pretty. Thank you for listening :) LOL Regards from Kuwait.. Angela
ReplyDeleteI love it! Just as it is now! I think it looks great on that wall and even with the white headboard! :)
