    Front Porch Flare!

I let you know yesterday that I'd be working on a front porch arrangement. I wanted something that brought together all of the colors of our plantings, but apparently I needed a much larger planter to accomplish that, so . . . I chose two of the colors, a bright chartreuse green from the potato vines and some very dark purple, almost black leaves from another plant (I have no idea the name of the other plant, Lee threw out the tag before I got a peak at it!).

I'm hoping that it will cascade down the front like our planter from last year! I LOVE potato vines, the color is amazing, the leaves are big and most of all I love the way it cascades!

I thing that planters by the front door are a must have :) Are any of you planting anything up by the front door??

Love it! Thanks for the inspiration. I just recently took our "faux" topiaries out of our urns and need to plant something. Fortunately the porch is shaded, because this heat is killing everything!

i did a planter for my mom's front porch last year and completely failed with whatever plant i chose for the far back, it died because of lack of sunlight. luckily the colorful flowers in front and vines draping down the sides hid my mistake!

i love the shape of your planter and how the colors of the plants contrast with your home

It looks great! I too love sweet potato vine! We have pots beside our doors that hold a grass of some sort. Can't remember the name. And I planted a few things in a galvanized pot on our porch as well (coleus, impatients and a sweet potato vine).

BHG had the best article about planting pots awhile back... thriller, filler, spiller. Easy to remember and looks great every time!

Love the colors together! Unfortunately I have not been planting anything... I've been wanting to, but it is just so hot where I live! Your yard is lovely though!

      Beautiful color combo!

I used to do colorful planters on the back patio...but my dogs dig 'em up and make a mess. I put hanging planters on the front porch, but forget to water them (hot weather + no water = dead plants). Perhaps I'll try again.

I love it!! sadly I think I have a black thumb as I bought a bunch of indoor plants in spring and have killed 2 of them :(

followup question from your last post. For my bedroom sitting area, do you think the jennylund or the ektorp chairs would be best? I know you have both (one downstairs in your living room and the ektorp in your bedroom). I love them both and they appear very similar so I was curious which one you liked most and you suggest for the bedroom. THANKS!!!

      Hey Ashli,
Your planter is very pretty. In our last house, all my exterior plantings containers had those bright potato vine plants with the dark purple-y (almost black) plants and little tiny white flowers (I think they're called bacopas?). Anyway, one of my favourite schemes too.
I'm your newest follower, sent over by Kirsten from Sixth Street. Your blog looks lovely and I really like the design aesthetic of your home!
