There is nothing like spending an entire day painting a section of trim, only to have most people not even notice.
This staircase trim was painted the same color as the wall, it was really bugging me, so we finally buckled down and painted the trim.
What I want to know is, can you even tell?
OLD TRIM:
NEW TRIM:
Lee had a good point, the fact that you can't tell means that it really fits in, and looks like it should have always been that way. He always knows just what to say . . . . well, sometimes he finds the right words . . . . Occasionally he'll say something right . . . . well, this time he did GOOD haha Lot of Love to the hubs who painted the paneling at the top of the staircase and the other side (Pictures to come tomorrow).

Yes to both! You can totally tell...and it totally looks like it was meant to be! I've been reading your blog for a while and really enjoy all the fun decorating pics. Keep it up! It is all the little details like this that make a house perfect!
ReplyDeleteLee is right! The trim just looks right now.
ReplyDeleteGood job!
I have to agree, very fitting. It made the space feel more crisp. Btw-I love your lamps!
ReplyDeletelooks fabulous and like it should be. I have a hard time focusing on the trim because I think this is the first glimpse of your living room and I LOVE IT!!!!! Cant wait to hear all about how that room came together.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks SO much better. It would have bothered me to have that trim the same color as the wall too, and it looks brighter and *right* now. :)
ReplyDeleteyes you can tell. It makes your stairs pop!
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, yes I can tell. Men ALWAYS know the right thing to say. Sometimes it is just at the wrong time...lol

You can def tell and it looks so much better! You have a great eye; I probably would've never thought to paint that....I'm trying to be more "detail oriented" in my decorating!
ReplyDeleteI can tell! I can tell! I think it makes a HUGE difference! Really makes the staircase "pop" vs. when it was painted the same color as the wall. That would have driven me crazy too - good job on the painting. I can appreciate the effort and the end result. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt looks sooo much better! I love how the new trim pops against the wall color. It fits so much better! =]
ReplyDeleteI love it and can totally tell a difference!
ReplyDeleteMany Blessings,
M.
It looks great! The other way wasn't terrible, but this way looks just right.
ReplyDeleteI could totally tell the second I scrolled to the next picture! Great job! It looks great and crisp! Totally worth it!

I didn't think the old way looked bad, but I understand it bugging you. Things like that bug me too. The newly painted trim looks great! Your living room looks so welcoming and I love that clock!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it'd be something that people would notice if you didn't tell them, but it definitely looks AMAZING now!!! Even your clock just pops that much more on the wall!! Looks good!!
ReplyDeleteCan TOTALLY tell a difference! It would have driven me nuts painted the same shade a the wall. Same reason why I am now loving our painted ceilings as opposed to white...all the beautiful crown moulding now stands out. Great job!! And, I am loving the little side table and wire basket I spy!!
ReplyDeleteIt does make a big difference and would be something I would have expected was that way all along. I just looks right. It makes the stair treads pop more.
ReplyDeleteI can tell. It really brings out all the white you have in the room. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe trim was ok before, but really looks terrific now- I really enjoy reading your blog-Even better you're from Canada, so your sources are available to me, too! (unlike many US blogs) -Dee
ReplyDeleteI think it made a huge difference - in a good way!
ReplyDeleteit looks beautiful. Much much better with the white trim. I love your color palette.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great and you can totally tell.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get your sofa? I love it!!
The entire room looks great! I'm not sure I would've noticed a difference if you hadn't pointed it out, but it looks MUCH improved painted! Consider your hard work worth it :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous room! The trim looks great, and does make a big impact on the overall feel of the room.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with that paisley fabric on the pillows. Would you mind sharing where you found it? Thanks!
New trim does look better :)
ReplyDeleteIf you have a moment, where is the white end table you used beside the couch? Is that an Ikea console?
ReplyDeleteThis looks so much better Ashli :) So crisp and looks much more complete now. Looks beautiful and has come together lovely :)

Oh gosh, that would've driven me nuts too! It looks so much better! :)
ReplyDeleteYou can absolutely tell; it looks great. I always like a contrasting trim.
ReplyDeleteThanks everybody :) I'm so glad it wasn't wasted effort!
ReplyDeleteMAGGIE: We got the sofa off Craigslist for $395. It's a stylus sofa (they're the best, our last sofa was stylus and my Mom's sofa is stylus).
MELANIE- I sewed the paisley pillows myself, the fabric came from Jo-Ann fabrics I believe it's a waverly fabric :) Hope that helps Here's the link to the pillow post:

ReplyDeleteThe Two end table are Ikea console tables they are Ikea's Melltorp Occasional tables. They were very tall and had two shelves, so Lee cut them down with a grinder and now they make really long Side tables.
Here's the link to the Melltorp tables:
