So I stuck with some super simple fresh cedar clippings and some tin stars, I still have to paint the small star at the top but I think it gives a really nice, subtle christmas feeling!
This is the first year I've used real live greenery and I would definitely do it again! It drapes beautifully, my only problem with it, is keeping it from drying out, any tips?

Looks beautiful Ashli. I too love fresh greens, but they do tend to dry out really fast, so I usually use faux and when it gets closer to the big day I add some real greens. I've hear misting it helps, but I always thought that sounded like a disaster in itself.

ReplyDeleteTry misting the greenery to rehydrate. It dries so quickly. I've used greenery in the past misting helps somewhat. I have a 5 gallon bucket filled with water and several stems of greenery to replenish the greenery I've used on the breakfast room cabinet. I know by Christmas it will be very dry.

I've looked at a lot of mantles in Layla's linky party and I have to say yours is one of my favorites. I love simple and I love real greenery.
ReplyDeleteWe also decorate with real greens but wait until the week before Christmas to tuck evergreen branches everywhere we can. :-) We leave them outside until then. Some years we will get extra and do it twice - the beginning of Advent and then change them out a week before Christmas.

ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, I love it!!! And I would not paint the upper star, leave it dark. The greenery is fabulous, you could get those little containers that the roses have when you get them, from the florists and put them on the cut ends, then fill them with water every day. No other ideas than that.

ReplyDeleteI love the whole look! I use fresh greenery every year. Isnt it splendid? I mist mine. I take a towel and hold the greens and spray lightly...that way i dont cause any water damage to my wood.

ReplyDeleteI'm coming over from Melissa's and love what you've done over your mantel.... it's giving me some good ideas. I also want to use fresh cedar inside, but worry about any marks or pitch it might leave on the mantel, or walls. It does dry out very fast. I agree with the other comments to change it, or add new. Thanks for the idea!

ReplyDeleteMy aunt sent us a live wreath for our new home last Christmas. It said to mist it to keep it fresh, but I wasn't so good at that and yet it still lived over a month. I finally figured out that the heat in homes must be what tends to dry greens out so badly, and we keep our home in the low 60's, and with me making a ton of soup it keep the air moist. Hope that helps!
