    Laundry Day

Our Laundry room is finally done, after much blood, sweat and tears, and I do mean all of those literally, although the tears are a result of the blood (on my part, not Lee's), word to the wise, sharp metal = hurty. Moving on, I hope you like it, here's what we did.

First we Lee removed the washer and dryer, kinda necessary in order to paint, although my dad would make the argument to paint around it :) (Love ya Dad).

Once they were out we cleaned the wall with warm water and a cloth, you should have seen the dust and lint that accumulated behind there, okay, I'll show you the picture, if only to inspire us all to vacuum behind our dryers more often (I've turned into the vacuum police).

Ours was last vacuumed out, just under a year ago, when we replaced our broken washer and dryer with the newer, slightly used model you see here.
Next we taped off some large stripes (apparently my new favorite thing to do).
Painted in those stripes a yellowy color , I thought about painting a bright vibrant color, like the Mudroom, but Lee vetoed Hot Pink, or Fushia as I tried to sell it, and we both settled on Yellow.

The chrome baskets on top of the dryer hold, the dryer balls (the chemical free way to fluff you laundry), and dog towels. I put non slip pads on the bottom of the baskets so they don't slide around and scratch up the finish. And as a bonus they are the matching baskets to the ones in the bathroom holding our extra towels, the bathroom and laundry room are very close to each other and I thought it would be good to have a little continuity.

We bought this ironing board holder from Kmart, it's fantastic. It holds the board up and out of the way, it also hold the iron on top with a spot to coil the cord, keeping it all nice and tidy, and it has two spaces to store spray bottles, I keep our stain remover in one spot and our lavender scented linen spray in the other.

I also keep a luggage rack tucked beside the machines so that I don't have to bend so far down when doing the laundry, it makes folding straight out of the dryer a breeze!

Laundry Room Mini Project, completed, I was even a little excited to do my first load of laundry in the new Laundry Room Closet.

Max likes Laundry too now, and could wait to get his freshly laundered toy out of the basket :)

This photo best illustrates his efforts to dig to the bottom for Elmer Elephant.

Love your laundry closet! I, too, have one but it's definitely not as pretty as this. And little Max is making me want a teeny puppy...don't know how my kitties would feel about that, though!

Nice job :) Do you cross border shop a lot? I notice you mention a few American chain stores in your posts.

Thanks again everyone for all you wonderful encouragement, and kind words!
Sharon- We do a fair amount of cross border shopping, I can't get enough of Target! We try to shop Canadian as much as possible and if I can find a price match in Canada I'll buy it here, but a lot of the prices in the US are WAY lower!!! and now with our enhanced BC drivers licences running over the line is super quick and easy!

I love target too! And am fortunate to live within 2.5 hours of some great US shopping! Living in a more rural shopping district does make one a bit more creative however! Great Job on the house...good luck with your move!

The Lord sent me here ~ who knew you were just what I needed after getting fretted from laundry overload! :-P Your use of a luggage rack is brilliant. Exactly what I need to use to lessen the bending n sorting effort. THANKS for sharing and inspiring! Max is too cute for words!

Thanks the ironing board cover is from Kmart but it's a few years old now!! But they have great covers, Homesense also has great covers (spring is the best time to buy them there). Sorry I couldn't be more helpful! Hope you find a great one! Etsy has some great ones too if you don't mind online shopping :)

The Wire baskets are from The Real Canadian Superstore I think it's called LOBLAWS in the US, if you're in the BC area, they are a great price each one cost $6.00. I hope your in the BC area Stacy, if not hopefully you have a loblaws, Sorry I couldn't be more helpful :)

I recently found your website and I think I am in love with all of your great ideas for living simple and GREEN. (single parent here). Do you recall where you got the containers that you have your Borax and washing soda in? I'd like to try it out this weekend. Or if there is a specific name for them? Maybe I could find them where I live.

      Hi Becca!!
      thank you very much!!
I bought the containers for the borax and washing soda from the Dollar Store :) $1 each haha
I hope you can find them near you :) I also thought that a cereal container from walmart would work well too :)
      I hope that helps :)

If you're an advocate for green living, you should be air drying your laundry instead of using the dryer :)
There are lots of compact/folding lines that you could easily tuck in beside your washer, just as you do with the luggage rack. Consider it!
