    Our Kitchen Resources

Our kitchen is small but a fairly decent size considering the minimal square footage of our house. It was the room in our house that needed the least amount of work. Well, the least amount of sweat equity. The kitchen did require alot of shopping, it needed a new fridge, stove, dishwasher, pantry cabinet, a pot rack and a some accessories. There was a bit of sweat equity, Lee ripped out the 4" x 4" square tiles with some blue fruit basket tiles added for effect (???) and replaced them with bead board, kind of a modern country look. We painted the wood with an oil based kitchen paint, a far cry from the low voc paint the rest of the house is painted with. We needed to make sure that the wood would wash clean, easily.
The fridge has the freezer on the bottom. I can not put into words how great it is. We go into the fridge 10 times for every 1 time we go into the fridge. Also, Lee is a man, and if it's not right in front of him he won't find it (I say that with love, he fully admits this).
The range is a convection oven with a ceramic stove top. Love the convection oven, not in love with the ceramic top. While I love the way the ceramic top looks and I love the dials being on the front of the stove, the ceramic top isn't the easiest to clean, and it does scratch no matter how careful you are/ I am. Ideally we would have a gas range but not in this house, maybe the next.
The pot rack is an absolute necessity, we are seriously lacking for cupboard space. Normally I wouldn't do anything to block natural light from coming in but in this case I really had no choice. The window is west facing and very large, still leaving alot of room for sunlight to come streaming through in the afternoon. We needed a wall mounted, thin pot rack so we used an ikea hat rack (linked Here), added some S hooks and had a thin wall mounted pot rack.
With our lack of cabinet space we were left needing a pantry. We purchased a white ikea cabinet, hoped and prayed that it would match the existing cabinets, it didn't. So we switched the door to a glass front door and it blended in beautifully. Eventually I'll need to sew window covers, check back for that project later this month.
There are still some things I'd like to change, more organizing projects to come (check out this post for previous organizing projects), maybe new flooring.
I collect white ceramic everything. All of our dishes are white, our serving platters are white, I always believed that as long as we keep everything white all the pieces will work together. I needed a place to store my collection. We used Ikea shelves in the small hallway between the dinning room and kitchen to display some of my collection. I love the ikea shelf brackets (Linked Here), and having a hook for my apron in the kitchen is not only useful, but a beautiful apron is like art for the Kitchen.

I am amazed at how you have utilized the space you have and not having it look cluttered. The spaces hold alot of stuff and yet it looks great!

Love the look of your white kitchen! Been thinking about painting my oak cabinets white but everyone advises us we shouldn't do it since the grain will always show through. Are these cabinets oak? If so, what color did you use and how did you prep?

      Thanks Linda,
We didn't paint our cabinets they came like this!!
I would check out PINTEREST they have some great cabinet painting tutorials!
In my non-professional opinion I would use a primer first and that should block the wood grain and knots from showing through :)
      Hope that helped a bit
